High Rollin – We Take the FMS FCX24 Smasher V2 for a Monstrous Ride

In the grand scheme of monster truck lore, the High Roller Monster Truck holds its own place. Built in 1985 by David Mattingly of Fordsville, Kentucky, its design was heavily influenced by the Original Monster Truck, Bigfoot 1. The truck’s journey saw it change hands and undergo transformations. Greg Coston acquired the High Roller in 1986, initiating a series of car-crushing displays across Ford dealerships, county fairs and jamborees. Subsequent owners modified its appearance, adding larger tires and repainting it red for advertising purposes.

The truck’s story came full circle in 2015 when Jeff Krekeler of Farmington, Missouri, purchased it with the intention of building a Bigfoot tribute truck. The unexpected reunion with Rodman Hobbs, who shared in the High Roller’s history, led to a comprehensive restoration in time for the 2016 Indy 4×4 Jamboree. Today, Krekeler is the proud driver of the High Roller Monster Truck, standing as a testament to history and restoration expertise.

It may be small in size, but the Smasher V2 delivers big in both the looks and performance departments.

FCX24 VERSION 2
FMS Model has consistently demonstrated their commitment to smaller-scale detail, and their latest creation, the FCX24 Smasher V2, is a true testament to that dedication. This 1/24-scale monster truck, built on the FMS FCX24 Smasher V2 platform, is an accurate hard-bodied replica of the iconic real-world monster trucks that were made famous in the 1980s by trucks such as Bigfoot 1 and High Roller.
Although the FCX24 Smasher V2 is packed full of details, it is more than just looks; this updated version of the FCX24 boasts some performance improvements, too. FMS Model has fine-tuned the FCX24 transmitter, integrating adjustable brake and drag brake functions. These enhancements offer drivers unparalleled driving control to ensure a truly engaging driving experience.

ENHANCED PERFORMANCE

At the heart of the Smasher V2 lies the FCX24 chassis, a well-balanced platform for a monster truck. The robust hollow tires aren’t just for aesthetics; they’ve been engineered to absorb shock with finesse, guaranteeing stability and durability through bumps and jumps.
However, the real magic happens with the two-speed gearbox, which is managed through the transmitter’s third channel. It’s not just about raw power; it’s about providing usable, adaptable performance. This smart setup allows the truck to use its torque for off-road driving yet retain nimbleness for higher-speed sprints. Alongside this, the front and rear axle planetary gear differentials elevate the truck’s off-road capabilities, offering cornering agility and accurate monster truck posture simulation.

CUSTOMIZABLE

Personalization is at the core of the FCX24 Smasher V2’s appeal. The package includes straight axle parts that allow users to experiment and tailor the truck’s performance to their preferences. Swapping in a straight axle on the rear enhances its climbing abilities, allowing it to take on rocky terrain and muddy trails.

The FCX24 Smasher V2 not only brings technical advancements to the table but also pays homage to the classic American pickup-truck style. Smasher V2 comes in blue or a tone of pinkish-purple shown here that FMS calls red. Replicating Bigfoot or High Roller isn’t a problem. In fact, the truck comes with water-slide decals that allow you to apply High Roller II’s livery onto the body. Mind you these are not robust peel-and-stick stickers but deliciated water-slide decals, so care must be taken after they are applied. To further its realistic look, the included electroplated parts evoke nostalgia for the thrilling era of monster truck events.
