TEST BENCH – Eartec UltraLITE HD 2-Person Headset System

Features

Eartec offers their UltraLITE HD single-ear headsets in a convenient 2-person system. These are made for sporting and RC enthusiasts who need clear communication between two people at any given time. The headsets are full duplex, meaning they are always in connection with one another and can transmit and receive voice traffic simultaneously. Additionally, UltraLITE HD headsets use DECT 6.0, a 1.9GHz signal that won’t interfere with our 2.4GHz RC transmitters. UltraLITE HD headsets also feature a built-in privacy code that keeps other systems from listening in, which is especially handy during competitive events. The effective range of the UltraLITE HD headsets is up to 400 yards, making them a great option for large venues and wide-open spaces.

Each UltraLITE HD single-ear headset features a comfortable ear cup with foam cushion and a foam-covered pad on the opposite side, as well as a foam-lined adjustable headband. The 2-person set comes with a “main” master unit and a “remote” receiver unit that have been pre-paired at the factory. The UltraLITE HD system is designed to be expandable so you can add additional remote units as needed, as well as link them to larger comms networks with Eartec’s HUB ecosystem. The headset package includes two rechargeable lithium batteries and a two-port battery charger. Each headset has an estimated operating time of about six hours.

TESTING

The Eartec UltraLITE HD headsets are very solidly constructed. They flex and swivel nicely without any trace of creaky plastic noises, which is a good indicator of their high quality. Fitting the headset to my head was simple and easy, with the adjustable headband allowing me to get just the right fitment. The ear cup and headband cushions are really comfortable on my bare head and also work well over a baseball hat. I want to point out that these headsets are truly ultra-light as well.

Each headset, with battery, weighs about 220g (7.75 oz.) making these super-comfy to wear for extended periods of time. This lightweight construction means you can wear the headset for hours without any negative effects on your neck and shoulders. As for the performance, the UltraLITE HD headset audio clarity is crystal clear thanks to its improved circuitry. Additionally, the microphone is extremely easy to position exactly how you need it and will quickly flip up out of the way when you don’t. The mic boom features a full 270° of articulation, so the mic can be flipped to either side for both left-hand and right-hand use.

So, after experiencing just how nicely these headsets are made and how well they work, we do have to ask the question: How are they useful in the world of RC cars? Well, as a nitro racing enthusiast I know exactly where my mind goes, and that’s to using these headsets as a way to communicate with my pit person during long practice sessions and race days.

Additionally, though, the UltraLITE HD headsets are a great way to communicate with friends and family when out and about on the trail with your favorite RC crawlers and bashers. If you’ve ever been in those situations where you and your buddies are 100+ yards apart and you have to resort to yelling or using hand signals, you know exactly what I mean. Imagine having these headsets instead, where you understand each other clearly and only need to speak at a normal volume. Being able to chat like this while driving our RC vehicles only adds to the joy and overall experience. It’s times like these that make me love this hobby even more, so I can easily see the UltraLITE HD headsets becoming a part of my go-to kit when going out for a day’s worth of outdoor RC fun.
