SHOWROOM SHINE – Refreshing Your Traxxas Vehicle with an Updated Body

SHOWROOM SHINE – Refreshing Your Traxxas Vehicle with an Updated Body

Like many RC enthusiasts, yours truly included, you’ve been bashing your Traxxas vehicle anywhere you can. From your driveway to the park around the corner or even on the ramps at the local skate park, wherever you have the chance to catch some air, take a technical line on a trail or go flat-out for all-out speed, you do it.

There’s no doubt that Traxxas makes some of the most bash-worthy RCs around. Thanks to their engineering and design, their cars and trucks feature legendary speed and durability. With so much brutal power and speed, there’s bound to be a few missteps and crashes during any bash session. We suppose that’s a part of the fun. Wiping out means that you’re pushing your vehicle to the limit, and that’s what makes bashing at the edge such a blast.

That said, we also like to see our vehicles sitting pretty on the shelf when they aren’t screaming by at Mach 1. The showroom shine is something we can’t get enough of. Unboxing a brand-new RC is a glorious moment and we sometimes wish our bashers would stay that way. Well, in a way, they can.

A NEW BEGINNING

To keep our vehicles running right, we periodically refresh them by replacing any worn, damaged or missing components. We also change things like shock fluids and make sure all the greaseable parts are well-lubed. That’s not all—we also take care of the car or truck’s exterior while we’re at it, too.

Scraped and damaged parts can be replaced with brand-new Traxxas body sets and plastic trim parts.

Personalized Body
Traxxas offers an incredible number of bodies for their vehicles, including ones that are pre-painted from the factory, those that are partially decorated with pre-applied ProGraphix graphics, and there are also complete blank-slate clear bodies for you to do with as you please.

We enjoy painting, so we always choose either a ProGraphix or a clear body. Painting your body is probably the most effective way to add your own style to your ride. For those who don’t like the painting process, a factory pre-painted body would be the best option. You can still personalize it with Traxxas or even aftermarket decals.

Many of the bodies come with decals and even window masks. Most Traxxas RTRs come with blacked-out windows, so you can make yours unique by masking the windows for a clear-window look. This is especially nice if you plan to install an interior, such as the interior that’s now available for the TRX-4 Blazer.

Clipless Options
Traxxas pioneered the clipless body, and if you’ve been reading RCCA for any amount of time you’ll know that we are huge fans of this innovation. It’s by far the easiest way to secure and release a body, all without the unsightly look of body clips. We wish all RC cars came with this system.

Going clipless only requires Traxxas’ Clipless Kit, which is available for select vehicles.

Traxxas has heard our pleas and is making retrofit clipless kits available for select models. All you would need is a Traxxas Clipless Kit and the Traxxas body for a vehicle the kit is available for and you’ll be able to easily retrofit your basher. We saw that TRX-4 Blazer, Slash 2WD and Slash 4WD can be converted so far. We’re hoping they’ll eventually make kits for their entire line.

ProGraphix Paint

Like we said, we enjoy painting bodies, so it’s great that Traxxas not only offers clear bodies for us to paint, but polycarbonate paint as well. The last we counted, Traxxas’ line of ProGraphix paint comes in no fewer than 31 varieties, including special colors such as chrome, tint and metal flake. We use this paint exclusively on our Traxxas bodies.

Our Slash 2WD looks brand-new and was easily customized thanks to a ProGraphix Slash body. Most of the graphics came pre-applied and we did the final one-color painting with Traxxas ProGraphix spray paint.

FINAL WORD

With so much power available in these vehicles, it’s easy to find your car or truck on its roof, skidding along for quite a distance. It’s painful to witness, but it’s not a big deal since you can always give your vehicle a makeover. Bring back that showroom shine and fresh-from-the-box appearance by swapping out that tired old body for a new one. Customize it with decals or apply your own paint scheme, the choice is yours. Whatever you choose to do, it’s sure to make your ride uniquely yours.
