RC4WD Gelande II With Cruiser Body Unboxing

RC4WD Gelande II With Cruiser Body Unboxing

Kev

I am very happy that scale trucks are growing in popularity. I enjoy the time that you spend painting the body to get it just right and the scale accessories do a great job of taking that already good looking vehicle and bringing it to another level. One company that is at the top of scale scene is RC4WD and if you ever went on their website you’ll see that the list of scale accessories and vehicles is mind blowing. One of the latest vehicles to be released from RC4WD is the Gelande II with Cruiser body set. It features an impressive scale chassis, metal driveline components, a FJ Cruiser style body and a lot more. I have one of these trucks and am getting ready to start building. I wanted to share with you guys what comes in the box when you get this truck home and on the work bench.

Let’s open the box and see what’s inside!

The parts come packaged in lots of foam. It does a great job of keeping the parts in place and free from damage.

Here you can see all of the parts that make up the chassis portion of the truck. The electronics are up to you so you may want to grab them before you start building so you can install them when you get to that point in the manual. This way there will be no reason to have to dissemble some sections to do it later.

One thing that I really like about this kit is that RC4WD does some of the building for you. Items such as the axles, transmission and transfer case are ready to install.

The frame rails are machined out of 7mm thick aluminum plate. The look of the rails is similar to what you would find on a full-size truck and the black crinkle finish is a nice touch.

With the truck you get RC4WD’s Dirt Grabber tires and they come molded out of a very soft and sticky rubber. See that wheel? It looks like a steel wagon wheel and it’s actually made of steel. That’s cool!

The included Cruiser body is very well detailed and has very crisp lines. Several parts are included to complete it including a full interior and you can build it with or without the top. It comes molded in a glossy gray color so you can use that as your base, add detailing and call it a day or you can paint it. I’m going to be laying down several coats of red paint to give my truck that factory look.

I think it’s cool that you get a complete interior for the Cruiser body set. What blows my mind is the level of detail on the parts such as the dash and door panels. I’m going to take my time to get the paint on them just right.

Building the chassis will be pretty easy and straight forward. The body and interior however will require a lot of work and it will be time consuming. In the end those efforts will pay off. I’m getting the spray booth cleaned out and my work bench ready for building. This is going to be fun.
