A BUILDER’S DREAM
Before we dissect this custom rig, let’s first talk about the SCX10 Pro as it comes from the factory. Presented as a builder kit, this isn’t your regular SCX10 RTR. It’s a premier kit that requires you to wrench it into reality, with ample opportunity to modify it in any way you so please.

Its appeal lies in the freedom it offers right out of the box, allowing users to craft their crawler according to their preferred crawling style. The option of CMS (chassis-mounted servo) or AMS (axle-mounted servo), along with switchable under-drive choices, sets the stage for a truly personalized experience. Axial’s introduction of optional carbon fiber and brass parts at launch added a layer of customization that sparked our curiosity.

Pro-Line’s Holcomb 1.9 wheels and Krawler 1.9 tires were chosen for optimal traction and style.

BOX STOCK BRILLIANCE
Built with innovation and flexibility in mind, the SCX10 Pro shines even in its box-stock configuration. This crawler handles diverse terrains and tricky rock formations with ease, making it a formidable contender for any crawling enthusiast. Its adaptability and capability right off the assembly line are truly impressive.

AFTERMARKET UPGRADES
Embracing the SCX10 Pro’s potential, Mike threw as many aftermarket upgrades as he could at it. Mike is a gearhead of all scales and isn’t a stranger to tinkering with vehicles, whether they are 1/1 or 1/24 scale. In the case of this 1/10-scale crawler, he decided to build not one but four SCX10 Pro kits. That’s right—he dove into the deep end and went for four crawler builds in a short period of time.

We’ll take a look at the first one he completed, this blue and pink hued build. He decided to keep the aftermarket parts all within the portfolio of Horizon Hobby, Axial’s parent brand. That means it’s built with not only Axial upgrades but with accessories from brands such as Pro-Line and Spektrum as well. We’ll get into the nitty gritty soon enough.

Game-Changing Customization
Mike’s special project took the SCX10 Pro to the next level, showcasing its adaptability and performance in a unique pink-and-blue color scheme. Boasting a collection of Horizon Hobby parts, this customized crawler is proof of the SCX10 Pro’s potential as a comp-style rig right out of the box.

This rig features a lineup of top-tier components that contribute to its outstanding performance and aesthetic appeal, including an Axial SCX10 Pro body for its distinctive look as well as a set of Pro-Line Krawler 1.9 tires for optimal traction. The wheels are Pro-Line’s Holcomb 1.9s for extra style points as well as strength for rugged trails.

Looking to cut weight where he doesn’t want it and add weight where he does, Mike installed an Axial SCX10 Pro Comp Crawler carbon chassis rail set for lightweight strength and durability, and he also added weight in the form of SSD brass knuckles for enhanced balance and trail performance.

As for the truck’s electronics, the Pro was fitted with a host of gear from Spektrum including a Spektrum 2-in-1 2300kV brushless motor and ESC combo, Spektrum’s S6285 high-torque servo, and a Spektrum S7110 high-voltage servo winch. Power comes from a compact Spektrum G2 3S LiPo 1300mAh battery. A DX5 Rugged Radio tops off the build for its precise control and tough, weather-resistant housing.
