Spashett Joins Tamiya

Spashett Joins Tamiya

Looks like Tamiya is beefing up its already strong TRF squad. David Spashett has just signed with the Big T, where he will join current IFMAR TC Champ Marc Rheinard. No shakeups in the power department for David; he's sticking with Peak motors and batteries.

Tosolini, Cyrul Score At ROAR Carpet Nats

Tosolini, Cyrul Score At ROAR Carpet Nats

Chris Tosolini drove his SMC-powered, Fantom-motor Yokomo into the 1/10 Sedan Modified winner's circle at the ROAR On-Road Carpet Nationals. Chris TQ'd the class, ripping up Ripon Speedways Ozite with a blistering 24/5:11.45 run, but only won one of the triple A-Mains (Trinity's Paul Lemieux and Associated's Mike Dumas won the other rounds). But it's all about the points, and Tos had 'em.

Trinity's Josh Cyrul was the big winner in 1/12 Mod, besting Barry Baker and Mike Blackstock. Josh went into the Mains as top-qualifier with 41/8:07.73, and sat out the third main after winning the first two.

In the Nats other classes, Travis Schreven won Stock Touring, TJ Bradley took down the win in 1/12 4-cell stock with SMC power, and David Lee won the 1/12 Masters race, also with SMC cells.

RC Car Action - RC Cars & Trucks | Pro-Line Nitro Maxx Challenge

Pro-Line Nitro Maxx Challenge

Tamiya and Team Losi scored big wins at the 5th annual Pro-Line Maxx Challenge. Jimmy Jacobson and David Jun lead the TRF squad to a one-two win in Small Block with their Pro-Line fortified TNXs, while Losi's Adam Drake rousted the Big Block guys with his LST. In the Outlaw class, Mugen scored with a MRS-5T truggy wheeled by Boby Tillman. In the non-monster classes, Associated's Jared Tebo smoked the 2WD Truck guys and Mugen's Bobby Tillman took home another trophy by winning the Buggy class.

Silver State: Tebo Doubles!

Silver State: Tebo Doubles!

Team Associated and Kyosho ace Jared Tebo won both Pro classes at the Silver State Nitro challenge. The Kid started second for the main event in the 1/10 Pro class, battled early with The Drake, and eventually settled his O’Donnell-powered Factory Team GT into the lead. Trinity's hard-charging Ryan Cavalieri dueled with Tebo in the back half of the race, often looking faster. The two must have swapped spots a dozen times, and it was an edge-of-your-seat thriller as Tebo got a better run down the nasty, rutted back straight on the last lap to sneak by for a 1.1 second victory over Pudge. Click "More" for 1/8 action.

In 1/8, Tebo had troubles during qualifying and was forced to bump up from the B-main. He won the B for a 12th place spot on the A-main grid. Early on, it looked as TQ Mark Pavidis would check out and win, but an early flame out forced him pack in the pack. Tebo sliced and carved through the field with surgical precision as he picked off the other racers. As the clock wound down, Cavalieri was up in second and closing the gap, but it wasn’t enough to catch The Kid.

Results! ROAR Fuel Off-Road Nats

The ROAR Fuel Off-Road Nationals just wrapped at Gears R/C in Harlingen, Texas. This was the first time monster trucks were officially recognized as a class. Jay Halsey took top honors in the monster truck class driving a prototype Jammin' Truggy powered by a big block.
Jason Ashton pulled out to an early lead driving a Mugen MSR X5-T, but suffered mechanical troubles that would take him out of contention.
Jared Tebo took the top spot in the 1/10 stadium truck class driving a Team Associated RC10GT. Word has it that Tebo's truck was fitted with custom quick-change rear hubs, which allowed a rear tire change half way through the race. Tebo reportedly had a large lead, lost a critical screw in the suspension, was brought into the pits to have a new screw installed, and still made it back on the track in first place.
Team Kyosho's Mark Pavidis and Trinity/Kyosho driver Ryan Cavalieri battled for almost the entire 1/8 buggy A-main. With just two laps to go, Cavalieri jumped over the top of Pavidis for the lead and the eventual win.

No Predators for Associated! APRIL 2002

Team Associated recently announced their drivers would run Tenth Technology Predators in the 4WD class at the IFMAR off-road worlds, but has since scrapped plans to run the iconoclastic British machines (although Craig Drescher may be an exception). According to Associated, Tenth Tech simply could not provide the cars soon enough for the Team drivers to build and dial them in. So what will the A-Team's 4WD pilots be running in Africa? Whatever they want! Billy Easton and Mark Pavidis will race TC3-derived buggies hand-built with German conversion parts, but don't look for a production Associated 4-wheeler to come of it; the company strongly asserts there are no plans to build a 4WD buggy.
