Further Description/Back Story | Mike’s “Brawler” (Brat/Crawler) is proof that resourcefulness and creativity never go out of style in RC, and that you don’t have to spend a ton of money or a ton of time to pull together an original and fun-to-drive vehicle. He tells us his primary goal for this project was zero painting, and he obtained all the parts from online auction sites. It is essentially a vintage Kyosho Double Dare chassis topped by a Tamiya Subaru Brat body. He tossed in a Tactic RC servo for steering and credits old RC Car Action articles for teaching him how to make his own wiring harness to solder up a pair of Johnson Silver 540 motors to a single Intellispeed 12T modified speed control. He says the retro-feel of running the truck takes him back to his RC roots in the late ‘80s running a Big Brute at a local track, and now he enjoys sharing the RC hobby with his 7- and 9-year-old kids. |
