Everything in Texas is big right? Well the 3rd annual Lonestar Challenge was held at Thornhill Racing Circuit in Hutto, Texas over the weekend of April 23-24 and some of the big named drivers from across the continent were in attendance. Racing was fast and challenging on the same facility that will be hosting the 2016 ROAR Off-Road Fuel Nationals and it was an important race leading up to the National in June. The Dirt’s Joey Christensen was responsible for the great layout and he took advantage of it, especially with the facility’s newest improvements made in 2015 including the addition of an enlarged track cover, making it one of the largest indoor facilities anywhere. In the premiere 1/8 Pro Buggy division, it was TLR’s Ryan Maifield who stole TQ, but it was HB/HPI Racing’s Ty Tessmann who made it all come together in the main to take the top step of the podium leaving Maifield with runner-up honors. Tekno’s Ryan Lutz competed the top three. As mentioned, this track will play host to the upcoming ROAR Off-Road Fuel Nationals and with Ty Tessmann sweeping the event in 2015 by winning both Pro Buggy and Pro Truggy, his meticulous preparation is looking sharp and a good bet for him to repeat his performance.
