Traxxas 4-Tec Workbench Project

Traxxas 4-Tec Workbench Project

Workbench Project: Traxxas 4-Tec

Well, here is another one of my crazy project’s. You see, in my garage of RC vehicles I have this. A Traxxas 4-Tec from a few years ago. I won’t lie, it is beat. I know it’s not a racer, but rather a basher. I had a hard time tracking down a new lower chassis for this one when I broke it a while back. So I fabricated an aluminum chassis for it. It ran great for a little while, and then got stuck in the corner like I’m sure some of you’re projects have. (You know who you are)   So as I start this project of bringing life back into an old dog, what tricks do you think are appropriate for this one?? I want reader feed back and ideas on this one.  Not all the parts I have are in the picture, I still have the basics for the car. front bumper, shocks, slipper etc.
The car isn’t as popular as it used to be. So for some of you, it could be a vintage rebuild.  But let’s start at the beginning. Here is what it looks like now. I will be updating in my RCCA Blog as the project progress.  Keep in mind, for those of you who suggest a 3 cell lipo and brushless…. You have the wrong car. Did I mention belt drive??  🙂 🙂

  1. I’d love to see a rear wheel drive electric belt drive! I miss the old says of the traxxas nitro street and 2wd thundertiger pan cars. Maybe slap on a scale looking body and do some realistic drifting/bashing action! Whatever you decide, I can’t wait to see it. Good luck!

  2. I would vote rally car, but an unshielded belt drive isn’t exactly ideal for off-road. How about a Pro Street class drag car?

  3. I would ad the Traxxas 2.5R. Or if you wanna go crazy, do the 3.3 but I think the 2.5R would do it. Add a descent radio/receiver and servo set and rebuild with upgrades. It has the potential to be an awesome car.

  4. Scale drifter FTW! Lock up the rear diff, see if you can fit on a smaller pulley on the rear (I think that’s the way it goes) for the counter-steer mod and build up a sweet super scale body. And do a hella flush set up with the wheels and body so you don’t get ugly big wheel gaps.

  5. sorry Jason, no nitro here. This an electric 4tec.

  6. How about a low rider pick-up or a nascar pick-up , I don’t know about 3cell lipo but you should go brushless .

  7. Mild brushless, 2s lipo. Hpi vintage wheels tires and black 68 Comaro body like in the movie”Better Off Dead”. 2 or 4wd

  8. I’ve done a little work on it tonight, got the shocks mounted, and the drive train re-built and going well. I can’t go brushless right now for this project, getting invested in a new brushless motor and ESC for my Slash cause It gave out on me last weekend racing. However, I am going to try a 17t modified brushed with 2 cell lipo. I’ll have some pictures posted in a couple days of my progress. I had a old carpet body Pontiac G6 laying around from a year ago, slapped that on. Doesn’t look bad. I was also able to whip up some new wheels and tires for the car. The old HPI Mesh were a little worn. 🙂 Should be pretty good for a “Closet Beater” 🙂 🙂
