CLIPLESS AND CLEAN
It’s not every day that I test out a component of a completed kit rather than a tool or an optional part, but the new Clipless Body Mounting system from Traxxas really caught my eye. Part of the Traxxass Corvette Stingray 4-Tec 3.0, this new innovative system allows for cleanly mounting the body to the chassis without the need for out-of-scale, sightly body posts. Traxxas’ goal with this new clipless system is to maximize the realism of the overall car, elevating the scale details one step closer to the real thing.
At first glance, I was a little bewildered by the clipless system since I hadn’t gotten to play with the kit beforehand. Sliding the kit out of the box, I felt like a little kid again, almost like unboxing a gift at Christmas. Seeing this excellent scale representation of a real Stingray was just awesome, so the clipless system was already do its job nicely. Not wanting to break anything, I didn’t pry or tug at the body until I understood just how the clipless system works so I reached into the box and pulled out the instructions.
Upon reading the manual I realized just how simply and effectively Traxxas designed this new clipless system. One can easily pull the body away from the chassis in seconds by pulling the hidden quick-release tabs at the front and rear of the underside of the car. With a little bit of a pull on the body, it lifts away from the chassis. Once the body was off the magic was revealed. On the interior of the body sit two quick-release tabs that drop into mounting platforms at the front and rear of the chassis. This keeps the chassis clean and devoid of body posts.
Reinstalling the body is just as easy. Simply place the mounting tabs into position and click the body securely to the chassis. Once in place, the body is held on tightly and can even hold the entire weight of the car with battery, so there’s no concern of the chassis falling away. Traxxas incorporated locating tabs onto the front and rear of the clipless system, making reinstalling a breeze. These tabs help to keep the body firmly in place and eliminate any side-to-side body movement once securely fastened.
Though this may not be an option part, the new Traxxas Clipless Body Mount system is a noteworthy innovation in the world of RC. Just think of the possibilities this could mean for upcoming kits. I look forward to seeing how Traxxas decides to use this system in the future, and who knows, maybe this will be the start of a trend. In the meantime, I certainly appreciate this take on attention to scale details.
