Traxxas-Sponsored Riders Sweep Podium at East-West Shootout

Latest race news from Traxxas:

Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas, NV: The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki/Traxxas Lites team had a huge night in Las Vegas, as the east and west riders took to the track together for the 250 Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Supercross Shootout. Christophe Pourcel (East champ) and Jake Weimer (West champ) showed off their fresh number-one plates, and Josh Hansen (100) was still feeling the positive vibes as the winner of the series’ final championship round the previous weekend. For rookie Dean Wilson (108), the Shootout represented one more shot at a podium for the fast freshman Lites rider.

Heat Race Action

250 East teammates Pourcel and Wilson rode in the first heat race. Justin Barcia took the holeshot, only to drop his bike with a front-end washout. As the kid struggled to pick up his fallen Honda, Pourcel roosted into the lead aboard his Traxxas-sponsored Kawasaki . It was to be short-lived, however, as Pourcel encountered trouble of his own when he came up short on a double and was bucked over the bars. Dean Wilson took over the lead and rode it all the way to the checkers, while Pourcel recovered to take seventh place, making the 9-man cut for the Main with two spots to spare.

In the second heat race, 250 West champ Jake Weimer took the holeshot followed closely by teammate Josh Hansen…and that just about says it all, as the two Traxxas-sponsored riders checked out and gapped the field by over 8 seconds to finish one-two.

250 Main Event

Propane cannons launched the 250 Main with a fiery blast and a blur of green, as Weimer, Wilson, and Pourcel commanded the front of the field. Josh Hansen also rode out in the lead group, holding sixth place as the pack sorted itself out in the first few turns. Trey Canard and Hunter Hewitt separated Hansen from his front-running teammates, but soon fell behind the hard-charging Hansen. Hewitt was dispatched by lap 2, and on the third lap, Hansen made a bold pass on the inside of Canard to take fourth. Mid-pass, Canard’s front wheel washed out, allowing Hansen and his Pro Circuit teammates an even wider gap on the chasing pack. Just four laps into the race, Weimer, Pourcel, Wilson, and Hansen had taken over…but racers live to race, and there would be no taking it easy with eleven laps still to go in 2010’s final Supercross. On lap six, Wilson passed Pourcel for second, setting up a battle for third between Hansen and Pourcel, even as Pourcel dueled with Wilson. Hansen made his move stick, and bumped Pourcel to fourth. Weimer, Wilson, Hansen, Pourcel…this was the order until the final lap, when Hansen made a bid for a higher step on the podium, and pushed Wilson wide to pass. As Wilson cut back to the inside on the next hairpin, he fell into Pourcel’s cross-hairs. The 250 East champ used his momentum to pass Wilson on the outside as the fast four made their final run for the finish line. The checkered flag flew for Jake Weimer, Josh Hansen, Christophe Pourcel, and Dean Wilson—talk about a perfect way to end the season!

Traxxas congratulates the riders, mechanics, crew, and everyone at Pro Circuit and Kawasaki on an exciting, successful, and action-packed Supercross season. Traxxas is proud to be part of the number-one team.

Now it’s time for outdoor motocross! The season kicks off on SPEED, May 23 at 5pm Eastern (2pm Pacific). Don’t miss it!
