Secure Mounting for Your Telemetry Expander

Whether you’re sending it at the skatepark or bashing full-bore on a construction site, a Heavy-Duty Chassis Brace can make all the difference. If you’ve already added one of these super-stiffeners to your low-CG Slash 4X4 or Rustler 4X4, you’ve probably been wondering if it’s possible to add the optional Telemetry Expander. Of course it is! Let’s find out how.

If you haven’t already installed your chassis brace, you’ll need to do that before installing the telemetry mount. Adding the chassis brace is easy with all the necessary parts included in the kit. Simply screw the oval rod to the composite mount on both ends and then secure the mounts to the front and rear bulkheads. It’s pretty straightforward, but it helps to check your orientation with the instruction sheet found here.

Once you’ve installed the chassis brace, it’s time to position the telemetry expander mount. The Traxxas Telemetry Expander 2.0 accepts up to six different plug-and-play sensors. Maybe you want to keep an eye on motor temperatures and ambient temperatures as well as the battery voltage. The choice is up to you. You’ll want to position the mount so that you’re not straining any of the sensor wires. On Rustler 4X4 models, you will also need to position the mount to make sure it clears the internal body brace.

Secure the upper and lower halves of the mount to the brace with the solid half oriented on the top. Before you tighten the mount completely, do a test fit of the expander to make sure all the wires will reach and the body cage clears the expander. Once you are satisfied with the location, tighten the two halves down to the mount and then fix the Telemetry Expander 2.0 to the mount with two screws.
