Pit Bull RC Temco Super Mega XL tires are designed as a heavy-use 2.2 off-road truck tire. The treads have been specially designed for uses in pulling, rock climbing, rock bouncing, mud, and various other applications where a 2.2 tire is needed on rough terrain. Pit Bull molds these tires in their own “Alien” compound for a super-grippy, sticky tire feel. The tires are officially licensed by Temco Tire and feature bold logos on the sidewalls. The Super Mega XLs are sold in pairs and include Pit Bull RC’s Dirty Richard firm foam inserts. The Super Mega XLs are also Recon G6 certified so you know you’re getting the best possible quality tires on the market.

TESTING

The Super Mega XL tires are hefty, measuring in at an impressive 5.6” in height and a width of 2.3”, so to say there is a lot of rubber to these tires is a bit of an understatement. The included foam inserts are very firm, so they’re well suited for the “Jack of all trades” approach that Pit Bull mentions in their marketing information.

The tread design is widespread and allows for dirt and mud to slip through while the tire lugs dig right into the surface. The sticky Alien compound certainly does a good job of hooking up and keeps the truck in control. The inner carcass of the tire features some nice reinforcement around the bead to limit flex in this area, which helps to keep it from folding in on itself. The tire bead itself is well-molded, with no signs of excess flash or blemishes.

For most heavy duty applications we’d recommend using a beadlock-style wheel, but these tire beads are very clean, so we could easily see them working out nicely when glued as well. The inner foams fill out the shape of the tire nicely and do a good job of helping them retain their shape, even under heavy load. Pit Bull RC also offers optional 2-stage foams that may be better suited to extreme crawling applications, but we very much liked the firm foams that come with these tires for their more versatile applications.
