Tamiya Announces New VW Amarok and Pre-Painted FJ Cruiser Kits

Tamiya’s new VW Amarok is based on the WT-01 chassis. Tamiya has offered the WT-1 in a 4WD configuration, but we expect this to be the 2WD version as used on the Blackfoot III, Bush Devil II and Mud Blaster II trucks.  You can read more about it in the 2WD truck shootout that we had in the March 2015 issue. The unique VW Amarok body really makes this truck stand out. If that truck isn’t your style, you can take a look at the FJ Cruiser that’s now available with a pre-painted body. This one is based on Tamiya’s CC-01 Cross Country chassis and comes pre-painted with an orange body. The CC-01 chassis is a popular one with the scale crowd and has features such as 4WD, solid rear axle, oil filled shocks and electronic speed control. The clear-body version was on the cover of our July 2014 issue–good lookin’ truck.

It’s weird to see a VW grill and badge on a lifted pickup, but it’s definitely a sharp truck. Friction shocks keep the cost down.

The pre-painted CC-01 will look just like this when you’re through wrenching. Tamiya’s onto something with their “you build it, we paint it” concept, especially for scale topics. Tamiya does a great job with their factory-finished bodies.

Here’s the FJ on our July 2014 cover.
