Serpent introduces the Natrix 748 in an electric powered 748-e version.

Serpent made the 1st dedicated 200mm electric powered car, based on the successful Serpent 747 a few years back and also as 747-e it has been selling well since then. Time to follow up with the successful Natrix 748 e-version

Main advantages of an electric 200mm car are:

  • 200mm is more stable and easier to be fast than with 190mm
  • Very suitable also to use on larger 1/8 scale gas tracks
  • Use of wider foam tires, makes racing easier, and no need for tire oil
  • Can handle both 2S and 3S battery packs, use 1/10 or even 1/8 speedo.
  • Very strong and durable , as based on front and suspension of the heavier 1/10 scale gas cars
  • Good range of optional
  • Good range of bodies and tires, even better when you race 1/10 gp too
  • Silent but very fast, so ideal for rc tracks that don’t allow GP cars (after certain hours).

Main specs:

  • superlight racing chassis,
  • 2-belt drive system,
  • front and rear compact gear diffs
  • carbon chassis plate,
  • carbon top deck
  • carbon shock towers f rand rr
  • Carbon battery holders
  • ball raced anti-roll bars,
  • fully adjustable suspension,
  • innovative fully adjustable steering blocks
  • aluminum motor mounts which doubles up as midshaft holder and rear anti-roll bar holder
  • ball raced midshaft is mounted in separate brackets to allow easy and fast spur gear changes
  • very low steering servo position, with centrally mounted supports in alu/carbon structure
  • 2 alu L-shaped top deck supports with integrated ball raced belt tensioners

Serpent 748-e details

Chassis

Symmetrical chassis plate for even flex and torsion in 3mm carbon fiber, lowered where the motor mounts as low as possible in the car.

Top deck

The 2mm carbon fiber top deck connect the front and rear suspension.

Battery holders

The battery holders are in carbon fiber and have sleeves to enable use of battery mounting tape easily.

Servo-holder

very low mounted servo, a strong carbon/alu holder which is centrally mounted for even flex

Motor / midshaft / anti-roll bar holder

the motor is mounted on a low strong aluminum holder, which doubles as mid-shaft holder and rear anti-roll bar holder as well.

The mid-shaft mounts in 2 separate holders with the ball bearing inside to enable a fast and easy change of gears.

Super Short RCM shocks

Coated threaded shock bodies in high quality aluminum. Super smooth O-ring / bushing package, to guide and seal the spring-steel piston rods. Precision molded pistons included in 3 types. Threaded pre-load shock nuts in alu with o-ring inside. Light but strong nylon spring-cups. Selected, matched and paired shock absorber springs with color coding.

Front bumper and body mount

Front bumper with aerodynamic effects and excellent protection. Some parts of the lower bumper can be cut open to create more steering. Medium or small foam bumper pad scan still be fitted as optional. The upper carbon fiber body plate mounts to the front bumper with alu post and secures the front body posts

Shock tower front

Super low 3.0mm carbon fiber shock towers with 3 positions for upper shock mounting. In the center you can mount the 3rd body post as needed.

Front brackets

A compact and superlight structure of top-quality aluminum parts consist of top-brackets, L and R equal bearing brackets, lower suspension bracket front. The open style design allows for very fast parts exchange as needed, like belt, diff or anti-roll bar.

Suspension front

Strong long double A-arm suspension with aluminum pivot balls, which pivot in light nylon cups. Hard type composite arms. The arms pivot on the inside on spring steel pins. The pivot-inserts are used to change roll center. Small grub screws mount in the upper bracket to control downstop. Easy to access and change ride height, front width, toe-in, caster and camber.

Steering blocks

Very strong composite steering blocks with 2 ackermann positions, L and R use the same . The steering blocks feature inserts, which allow to change the kingpin inclination to a leading or trailing position. The steering blocks also allow use of the optional carbon fiber aero disks to be mounted for less flex and a more direct steering feel.

Wheel axles / cvd

The spring-steel wheel axles are seated in high speed bearings. The light and durable spring-steel cvd’s bring all the power to the front wheels. Wheels are mounted to orange anodized high grade aluminum hex-adaptors using flanged wheel nuts.

Anti-roll bar front

The ball raced wire type anti-rollbar in the front is really easy to access and change for other type or thickness as needed. The anti-roll bar is linked to the lower a-arms with a unique pivot ball/cup system, which provides direct and smooth operation and is easy to set and adjust.

Servo-saver / steering

The new lowered centrally mounted steel servo-saver post fits the spring-loaded ball raced servo-saver system and steering. The inserts allow 2 ackermann settings. Due to the open design the linkages with L/R threading can be reached easily. The whole system allows for very precise steering and minimum bump steer.

Middle shaft holder

Machined 2 piece aluminum middle shaft holder, which securely holds the spring steel middle shaft, and doubles up as holder of the pipe-mount.

Rear brackets

Very rigid but open rear end design with a composition of machined alu brackets, allowing for easy maintenance. The differential brackets, L and R equal, are toothed and seat the exocentric bearing holder, which allow for setting belt tension. Its very quick and easy to mount a differential and or replace a belt. The machined aluminum lower suspension brackets have roll-center inserts with 3 positions to choose from. The rear bracket is the narrow V1 version.

The 2-speed gearbox shaft holders, double up as anti-roll mounts, and brake system basis. All top-quality machined parts with anodizing and laser-engraving.

Brake system

the low mounted brake system with superlight disk allows for smooth and even braking, and the open system avoids overheating. The ball-raced excenter and lever gives a very smooth and direct brake-feeling.

Rear carbon shock tower and camber bracket

The low 3.0mm carbon shock tower has 3 upper mounting position for the shocks and it mounts the body-posts. The camber bracket offers 8 positions to choose from, 4 inner and 4 out holes. The shock tower is prepared to mount the extra body-protectors, which are optional.

Suspension rear

The Hard lower rear composite arms together with the updated uprights create a wider set-up sweet-spot with more grip and more steering. The upper camber rods connect to the carbon camber bracket with 8 mounting positions for roll-center and the camber rod is easy to access and has L/R threading for fast changes. The aluminum pivot ball system allows for fast changes in width and toe-in. On the lower inside the wishbone pivots on spring steel pins, which seat with roll-center inserts in the anodized alu suspension brackets.

Lower rear wishbones

The hard composite lower wishbones feature a mounting position for the anti-roll bar linkage which moves the link position more outside. It also offers a mounting position for an optional carbon shock-mount bracket, to move the lower shock mount position further out, but for the default set-up it’s not needed. By placing the lower shock further out, you will get even more steering .

Uprights / wheel-axles

Durable medium type composite uprights, which seat the wheel-axles bearings. The upright offers the mounting position for the steel camber-rod with L/R threading. Roll center changes can be made on top of the upright with shims. The upright can be mounted with the optional carbon fiber aero disks for more rear grip and straight line stability.

Wheel axles and driveshaft

The durable spring steel wheel axles combined with spring steel driveshafts bring the power from the gear-diff to the wheels. Wheels are fitted on high grade anodized alu wheel hex adaptors and secured with flanged.
