Further Description/Back Story | Having a real MK5 2008 VW Golf 1.4 TSI (similar to the popular Golf GTI, but with a 1.4 liter engine turbo- and supercharged, producing 140 HP) and a trailer for the home needs, I decided to build a scale Golf at first, using as a base my HPI Sprint 2 and a Matrixline 2-door Golf GTI body.
I made a few modifications when masking the bodyshell, so I could present it as a 4-door, like my real Golf and I didn't use the bodyshell's stickers for the front grille. Instead I painted the grill to replicate my real car's one. I made small stickers with my home inkjet printer to match the real car's stickers and logos. I did the same with the trailer. After a while, I did a quick mod and added a tow bar, using spare HPI Sprint kit parts. I replaced the rear bumper with a front one, and using a battery bracket, I made a towbar. For the towball I used a swing arm outer axle. Then I built a trailer, to replicate my own real trailer, using balsa wood, thick Insta-Cure CA and model airplane 60mm diameter foam wheels to closely match the car's 62mm diameter tires. I airbrushed the car with color provided by a loal auto parts shop, which replicated the exact real VW color code. The trailer was painted with a typical rattle can spray in silver. I installed the full led system to the car and made an extension to power the trailer's rear lights, using a set of Dean's micro plugs. I painted the rc trailer's rear door the same color as the real trailer's, which is the exact same color as the Golfs'. Fun facts: The trailer's rear light buckets came from empty pill cards! I painted them on the inside with Vallejo lexan paint! For the full story and a lot more pics, you can check my own website at: http://steliosh.net/golf/models/index.html |
