RC Car Wrecks: The Bad & The Ugly

I witnessed one of the most exciting and dangerous nitro buggy runaways at my local track last week I’ve seen in ages.  Thankfully, no one was injured, though this runaway made a large crowd of onlookers scatter like a flock of pigeons after a gunshot.  It got me thinking about some of the more spectacular RC car wrecks I’ve had and seen.

I found this video on YouTube, and it equals one of my all time best wrecks.  Yes, I managed to split a car in half…several times.  Check this out and let me know if you’ve had a wreck that tops this one.

BTW, how did this guy manage to hit the only tree within half a mile of his vehicle?!

  1. I was driving my slash 4×4 with a novak 4.5 550 in it and was going at top speed down a sidewalk when i hit a small bump in the road and the thing just took flight and was cartwheeling and sliding fir about 20 yards. When i went to check the carnage my solid steel roll had snapped at one of ait major stress points and twisted it about thrirty degrees at its front anchoring point. Unfortunatly the two rear screws that held the roll cage on had been stripped and i had to have them grinded so a standard screwdirver could pul the out. My esc had also come detached from the chassis, and thats not the first time it has happened either.

  2. Lucky it was the tree that you hit and not the parked cars or people. Either way, you are a MORON for running at those speeds with so many things to hit – especially not your property. Run RC cars smart.

    1. LOL…it wasn’t me that shot the YouTube video, that’s someone else. You make good points though, everyone should always practice safe RC driving away from people, property and dangerous obstacles. This video wouldn’t have been so funny had the tree been a person.

  3. Don’t know if it beats it, but it was pretty spectacular.

My brother was doing speedruns in the street with his 1/16 E-Revo VXL on 14.4V. He was almost on top speed (about 46MP/H) and when he was about to turn, the front tires lifted just a little bit off the ground. The front right wheel clipped the wheel of a full size car at full speed. The WHOLE front right suspension ripped in half and the car continued at full speed. The front right wheel was stuck under the wheel of the full size car and needed about 25 pounds of force to pull it out.

  4. I don’t know if I’ve topped it, but my scale truck’s motor catching on fire during an event was pretty amazing. Looked like a real breakdown.

    1. That does sound like a pretty real breakdown, Dane
