Racing is Back!

Racing is Back!

At the risk of drastically over simplifying the subject, this hobby–specifically the enthusiasts–can be broken down into two groups: racers and bashers. You either race or you don’t. There’s no official definition of a racer or what qualifies you as a racer. I’m going to say you’re a racer if you go to the track to participate in organized competition a few times a year–more than once a year. Do racers no longer bash? Of course not, but if you race and participate in that side of the hobby, you get lumped in the racers group.

My point isn’t to try to define what makes a racer a racer. I want to point out that racing is back. Thanks to short course more people are finding their way to the track and more people are becoming racers. And, it isn’t just short course that’s growing. I’ve seen a increase in 1/8-scale buggy racers as already people who started with short course are trying out additional classes.

This is great news not just for the racers, it’s great news for the whole hobby. More people participating helps keep the industry strong which helps keep costs low and new stuff coming out, but racers have proven to generally stay in the hobby longer.

Are you seeing racing grow in your area?
