McCullough’s Summer Classic: Kyosho Sweeps

On June 18, 2011 the Second Annual Summer Classic was held at McCullough’s RC in Sarver, PA. This one-day race attracted over 60 entries. This race consisted of nitro and 1/10th electric racing. The racing program was comprised of three, five-minute rocket-round qualifiers. The Pro Buggy and Truggy A-Mains were 15-minutes and the E-Scale and 1/10th electric A-Mains were 10-minutes in length.

Team Kyosho/Team Orion driver Andrew Michael was in attendance and he competed in the Pro Truggy and 2WD Mod. Short Course classes. The competition was intense in both classes all day long, but Andrew found a way to go faster for each round of Pro Truggy qualifying with his Orion-powered Kyosho ST-RR, which resulted in Andrew Top Qualifying all three rounds of Pro Truggy qualifying and taking the overall Top Qualifier honors for that class. The competition in the 2WD Mod. Short Course class was equally as competitive, but Andrew again found a way to go faster each round of qualifying with his Orion-powered Kyosho SC-R, thus Top Qualifying every round of 2WD Mod. Short Course qualifying and then taking the overall Top Qualifer honors for that class as well.

The start of the 2WD Mod. Short Course A-Main began nicely for Andrew. At the sound of the tone, Andrew got the holeshot thanks to the smooth horsepower that was produced by his Orion-powered Kyosho SC-R and never looked back. Andrew would go on to lead every lap of the 2WD Mod. Short Course A-Main, but not without the immense pressure that was applied by the second and third place qualifiers. Andrew was able to stay smooth and consistent the entire A-Main, which resulted in him winning the 2WD Mod. Short Course class with his SC-R!

The start of the Pro Truggy A-Main did not start off very well for Andrew. In the first turn, his ST-RR got turned around by the second place qualifier. Andrew went from first to fifth due to that mishap. Knowing that if he did not catch up to the lead pack in a hurry he would not have a chance at winning, Andrew began to be extremely aggressive in the way that he drove his Orion-powered ST-RR. Thanks to the reliable, smooth horsepower of the JTP Edition Orion engine, Andrew was able to get his ST-RR up to second place before he came in for fuel. After his fuel stop, Andrew continued to drive in an aggressive manner, pushing his ST-RR to its limit. As a result, Andrew was able to catch the first place truck and make the pass for the win with time to spare. This win cemented a Kyosho sweep of the event!
