Jared Tebo Sweeps ROAR 1/8 Fuel Off-Road Nationals

Latest race news from Orion, Kyosho, and AKA:

The 2010 ROAR 1/8 Scale Off-Road Nationals were held June 23-27 at Colorado Fast Track in Colorado Springs, CO. This years format would consist of 4 7-minute qualifying rounds. Each drivers 2 best runs would count towards their overall qualifying position. Then the drivers would be sorted into semi’s where they would have to race their way into the main events.

2010 Roar Nationals Race Schedule

Wednesday – Open practice all day
Thursday – 1 controlled round of practice followed by 1 round of qualifying
Friday – 2 rounds of qualifying
Saturday – 1 round of qualifying followed by lower mains ran up to the 1/4 finals
Sunday – 1/4 finals followed by 1/2 finals followed by Truggy and Buggy A-Main Events

The extremely hot temperatures and high elevation would put all engines to the test, and tire selection would prove to be very important over the week as we saw temperatures as high as 95 degrees during qualifying and cold wet conditions for the finals.

In qualifying, Jared TQ’d the Truggy Class using AKA SOFT Truggy GRIDIRONS (#14103SPW), AKA wheels (24101W, 24101Y) and AKA closed cell grooved inserts (34101MG). Right before the Truggy main a rain shower blew through and changed the track conditions completely. This caused everyone to reconsider their tire combinations for the main. Jared opted for the AKA Super Soft Truggy GRIDIRONS (#14103VPW) for the 45 minute final.

At the start of the 45-Minute Truggy A-Main, Tebo got a clean start and began to open up a lead on the field. Tebo’s Team Orion powered Kyosho ST-RR was on point as he layed down fast lap after lap. At the halfway point of the Main, Tebo had opened up a 15-second lead on his Team Orion teamate Ryan Cavalieri who was in 2nd place. Team Orion Team Manager Joe Pillars and Kyosho America Team Driver Steven Daniluk provided Tebo with lightning fast pit stops throughout the entire 45-minute A-Main.

When the checkered flag waved, it was Tebo crossing the finish line 1st. This gave Jared, Team Orion, and AKA their 1st ever 1/8 scale National Championship. and yet another one for Kyosho! Team Orion Teamates Ryan Cavalieri finished a very respectable 2nd place and Mike Truhe just missed the podium finsihing 4th. And the Super Soft GRIDIRON combination proved to be the perfect tire combination for the conditions as Jared was able to finish one lap up on second place in the final.

At the start of the 1-Hour A-Main Event a first lap pile up allowed Jared Tebo to go from 4th to 2nd by the end of the first lap. Tebo’s Team Orion powered Kyosho MP9 TKI-2 was on rails posting many of the fastest laps of the race. At the halfway point, Tebo had opened up an 11 second lead on 2nd place. Once again, Team Orion’s Joe Pillars and Kyosho’s Steven Daniluk made fast and consistant pit stops to help keep Tebo out front.

At the end of the 1-Hour A-Main Event, Tebo was the only driver to make it by for the extra 93rd lap and to take the win by over 15 seconds. This gave Jared his 2nd 1/8 Scale National Championship and the Clean Sweep for the weekend. Tebo also made ROAR history by being the first and only driver to Sweep both the Truggy and Buggy classes in the same year!

In the one hour final, Jared used AKA Super Soft buggy GRIDIRONS (#14003VPW). The AKA super soft compound not only hooked up great in the damp cold conditions but lasted the entire one hour final with tread still left.
