Balance Boards Banished! Traxxas Announces “ID” Charging & Battery Tech

Traxxas’ newest EZ-Peak Plus charger is the first to incorporate the brand’s new “ID” technology, which allows for plug-in-and-charge convenience with both NiMH and LiPo batteries, with no need to select chemistry type or hassle with balance boards. For that matter, there isn’t even a cord with a female plug on the end–you simply plug your battery directly into the front of the charger.

When used with Traxxas ID batteries, the 4-amp, 40-watt charger automatically detects the battery chemistry and simply will not let you charge a Lipo as a NiMH, or vice-versa. And instead of plugging in a balance board, ID LiPo packs have balance leads integrated into the main plug. Plug in battery, press start button–that’s it.

The EZ-Peak Plus ID charger is also compatible with non-ID packs that have a Traxxas connector, but you’ll have to “tell” the charger which type of battery you have. And yes, there are balance ports for 2S and 3S LiPo packs–they’re hidden under the Traxxas logo next to the battery plug port.
