Jet-powered RC cars always seem like an awesome idea. They look cool. They sound cool. And when equipped with an afterburner.. well just look at this guy spool up his turbine dragster!
We love the flames, but in terms of speed there aren’t many vids of RC turbines that measure up to the speed and drama of full-size turbine cars and trucks.
For explosive thrust and speed, rocket-powered RC is the way to go. This car pulls 3.25G when the rocket lights off (at about the 45-second mark in the vid). That’s more than a NASA shuttle launch!
But what if you strapped a rocket motor into a relatively stock RC vehicle? (These guys were inspired by Mythbusters—what could go wrong?) When they get a clean FPV run at about the 7-minute mark the performance is shocking.
At 9:45 they decide to jump it…and the mayhem that results is exactly what you’re expecting.
But if you’re gonna jump a rocket car, why not mount the rocket vertically? Skip the first part of the clip unless you want to see the building montage, but at the 10-minute mark they get to the good stuff!
