2016 Reedy Off-Road Race of Champions: Practice Under Way

2016 Reedy Off-Road Race of Champions: Practice Under Way

We are back at OCRC Raceway in Huntington Beach, California for the Reedy International Off-Road Race of Champions. Today is just practice, but already things are heating up. Part of practice is to use the time for breaking in tires and putting a groove of traction down on the track. This may seem a bit odd, but it is necessary since the Reedy Race has very strict rules on how the tires can be treated. Like in years past, a spec tire is used with a designated area for a supplied control tire additive. These rules give everyone an even playing field and prevent the event from turning in to a tire war. With the first rounds of racing looming merely a day away, it is critical to make last minute changes and find the right line.

TLR's Dakotah Phend is among the invite drivers and uses the controlled practice to break in tires and find the fastest line around the track.

The track layout is tricky with a few sections causing some big problems for the best drivers in the world. The triple on the right side of the track is treacherous and compounded by tires with lots of pin, making less than ideal handling.
