100mph Slot Cars Will Melt Your Brain

100mph Slot Cars Will Melt Your Brain

An RC car traveling 100mph is pretty impressive, but 100mph on a slot-car track is downright insane. High-downforce “wing cars” can top 110mph, as (barely) seen here competing at the European Championship in Helsinki, Finland from a few years back. So, you could say these cars are fast to the Finnish line.
Fast-forward to 0:55 for the start of the action.

  1. Ran slot cars as a kid. Ran on one track that was a monster, think it had 15 tracks. Later I ran at the track at NTC Millington, until the whole complex burned down, then at the YMCA in San Diego. Got back to the States, no tracks left.

I NEVER dreamed a car could stay on the track at these speeds! Looks like TRON!

  2. This looks like an old American Raceways track. My dad had a slot car place in the early 70’s in Indiana. We acquired a red track, an purple track, and the big one, a 220 foot track with the insane banked turn. My dad combined the big track and the red track in order to remove the bumps on the red track main straight. Competitive times back then were about 3 seconds a lap.

  3. Here’s the link to the original video that was uploaded in March 2010: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtwkRd6zHwg

If you click on the header/title or the “watch in 720p” it goes to two different accounts. Just wanted to bring that to your attention.

  4. I remember these car tracks as a young boy. You could either rent a car & rheostat or you could buy both as kits and build your own. Too bad youdon’t see these facilities like you used to. If more of these tracks were available, maybe they would help keep this young generation out of trouble.
