REVIEW: WICCRA Soft Top, Tonneau Cover & Spare Tire Cover

REVIEW: WICCRA Soft Top, Tonneau Cover & Spare Tire Cover

New companies are popping up every day thanks to the increasing popularity of the scale RC scene. One off the newest is WICCRA, which stands for WI Custom Crawler—RC Accessories. Offerings from WICCRA  include real-fabric soft tops for the Axial Jeep JK, Axial Deadbolt, and the New Bright 4-door JK. You can also get a spare tire cover and a tonneau cover for RC4WD’s Trail Finder 2. For this review, we’ve got the soft top and spare tire cover for Axial Jeep JK models, and the tonneau cover for RC4WD’s Trail Finder 2.

Features

WICCRA offers the accessories in cotton twill and canvas versions, each in black or tan. For the JK soft top, the material is backed by thick polyester for stiffness and durability. Flexible, clear windows are just like those in a full-size convertible top. All the pieces are held together with high-quality stitching, and Velcro is stitched into the top to secure it to the roll cage. The tire carrier is designed to fit tires that are 4.5 inches or smaller, and a stretchy material around the opening holds the tire cover on. You can have WICCRA sew on a patch to give it a custom look, like you see here, or it can be ordered with no patch. The tonneau cover is designed to fit the RC4WD Trail Finder 2 Mojave body. Stabilizer strips underneath add support to the center of the cover and make it look as if there are ribs under it, just like you find on full-size trucks.

Here’s the soft top installed on my Currie Edition Jeep. If you’re using the spare tire carrier, you can run the mount through the gap between the window and bottom of the soft top.

All the products from WICCRA are handsewn and constructed just like their full-size counterparts.

Velcro holds the tonneau cover and soft top in place. Ribs on the back of the tonneau cover add support.

The spare tire cover needed some tugging and stretching to get it centered, but it looks great once installed.

INSTALLATION

Installing all three products was easy. I started with the spare tire cover, which took a bit of stretching to get it over the large spare tire on my Currie Edition Jeep, but once it was on, the fit was perfect. Before installing the soft top, I took the time to clean the roll cage with alcohol to ensure that the plastic was perfectly clean and ready for the adhesive-backed Velcro that keeps the top in place. Once the Velcro was in place on the cage, I placed the top on and aligned it with a tug here and a pull there to get it just right. When installing the top around the spare tire area I found that the top wasn’t sitting right and after looking it over, I saw that there is an opening between the bottom of the window and soft top. This opening gave me plenty of room to run the spare tire mount through and it allowed the top to sit properly. The top fits snugly but not so tight that you can’t make adjustments to properly align it. I moved onto the installation of the tonneau cover, and as I did with the soft top, I cleaned the top of the Trail Finder’s bed with alcohol to make sure that the Velcro stuck properly. Once it was in place, all I had to do was put the tonneau down onto the Velcro, and the cover fit the bed perfectly.
