ROAR Region 11 Electric Off-Road Championships: Kyosho Wins Multiple Classes

The 2011 ROAR Region 11 Electric Off-Road Championships were held at Dave’s R/C Raceway in Hubbard, OR this past weekend. Drivers from acrossed the North-West made the trip out for this event and the final entry count reached 135! The weather turnout out perfect all weekend long staying in the mid 80’s.

Kyosho America/Team Orion USA Team Manager Joe Pillars was on hand all day Sunday to help provide extra support to all the Kyosho/Team Orion drivers and customers after just returning home only a few short days ago from his month long tour of racing.

Race Schedule:

Friday, July 29th – Open Practice
Saturday, July 30th – Three Rounds of 5-Minute Qualifiers for each class
Sunday, July 31st – One 5-minute Round of Qualifying for each class, followed by 6-minute lower main bump ups, and 6-minute Triple A-Mains

Each drivers 2 best rounds out of 4 would count toward their overall qualifying order. Then the top 8 drivers would go straight into the A-Main, with 2 cars would bump from the lower main into the A-Main for a 10 car field.

Stock Buggy

PRCR local Tanner Day would just edge out Chris Nealeigh (another PRCR local) for the overall TQ, both drivers running a Kyosho RB5-SP2. Chris Nealeigh would go onto win A-Main #1 and A-Main #3 to take home his first ever Region 11 Championship! Salem local Jared McCormick would went on to Win A-Main #2 and finish 2nd in A-Main #3 to take 2nd overall. Kevin Focht of www.thebigrc.com went on to take 3rd overall by finishing 3rd in A-Mains #1 and #3. Along with Kyosho taking 1st and 2nd overall, there were 6 total RB5-SP2’s in the A-Main!

Stock Short Course

Chris Nealeigh went on to TQ all four rounds of qualifying with his Kyosho SC-R. Nealeigh didn’t stop there and went on to Win the first 2 A-Mains to take home his 2nd Region 11 Championship! Jared McCormick would finish 2nd in A-Main #2 and Win A-Main #3 to take home 2nd overall. Keith Whetsell finished 3rd in A-Main #1 and 2nd in A-Main #3 to round out the podium for 3rd overall. Kyosho SC-R’s would sweep the podium as well as have a total of 7 in the A-Main!

Modified Truck

Kyosho/Team Orion Driver Thomas Tran would go onto TQ 3 rounds of qualifying and take the overall TQ with his Kyosho RT5. Thomas then went two and out by winning the first 2 A-Mains in style to take home the Modified Truck Region 11 Championship! Gary Culp made his regional return to racing by taking an impressive 2nd overall by finishing 2nd in A-Main #2 and Winning A-Main #3. Dave Gullickson would take 3rd overall by finishing 2nd in A-Main #1 and 3rd in A-Main #2. Kyosho’s RT5 would Win this class and also have the most trucks in the A-Main!

Modified Truck Top 3 Overall

2. Gary Culp Losi
3. Dave Gullickson Losi

Modified Short Course

Kyosho/Team Orion Driver Andy DiBrino would TQ overall by TQ’ing the first 3 rounds of qualifying with his SC-R. Kyosho/Team Orion Driver Shaun Dunlap would TQ the last round of qualifying and start 2nd on the grid. Shaun would Win A-Mains #1 and #2 to take home the Modified Short Course Region 11 Championship! Andy DiBrino would finish 2nd in both the first 2 A-Mains and Win A-Main #3 to take 2nd overall. BARC Driver Derek Rasheed would take 3rd overall by finishing 3rd in A-Main #1 and 2nd in A-Main #3. Kyosho SC-R’s would sweep the podium and cover half the field in the A-Main!

1. Shaun Dunlap Kyosho SC-R
2. Andy DiBrino (TQ) Kyosho SC-R
3. Derek Rasheed Kyosho SC-R

4wd Modified Buggy

Kyosho/Team Orion Driver Shaun Dunlap dominated qualfiying and would take the overall TQ with his FS2. Shaun would then Win the first 2 A-Mains to take home his 2nd Region 11 Championship of the weekend! Tom Davies would take 2nd overall by finishing 2nd in A-Main #1 and Winning A-Main #3. Kyosho/Team Orion Driver Andy DiBrino would round out the podium in 3rd by finishing 2nd in A-Mains #2 and #3. Along with Kyosho taking 1st and 3rd overall, there were 6 total Lazer ZX5-FS2’s in the A-Main!

4wd Modified Buggy Top 3 Overall

1. Shaun Dunlap (TQ) Kyosho Lazer ZX5-FS2
2. Tom Davies Associated
3. Andy DiBrino Kyosho Lazer ZX5-FS2

2wd Modified Buggy

Kyosho/Team Orion Driver Andy DiBrino would TQ two rounds of qualifying and take the overall TQ. DiBrino would go onto Win A-Main #1 with Dunlap finishing in 2nd. Then Dunlap would Win A-Main #2 with DiBrino finishing 2nd. So the 3rd and final main would decide the Champion. Andy DiBrino would lead every lap and hold on for the Win and his first Region 11 Championship! Dunlap would finish 2nd overall. Derek Rasheed would land on the podium once again for 3rd overall after finishing 3rd in every triple A-Main. Kyosho would sweep the podium as well as have 7 RB5-SP2’s in the A-Main!
