Team Associated posted these pics of a pre-production RC10B5M on their Facebook page. The translucent parts are “RP” parts, shorthand for rapid prototyping. It looks like the parts shown here were created with a stereolithographic process and photopolymer rather than a filament machine as most commonly associated with 3D printing, but that’s just a guess. If this doesn’t press your “I want to do that” button, then RC just isn’t for you. It’ll take one helluva plane ticket (the track is in New Zealand), but we definitely want to hit this oval for some gas-powered go-left action. Who can resist big ol’ weed-eater-powered Sprinters slinging good old-fashioned dirt?
An RC car traveling 100mph is pretty impressive, but 100mph on a slot-car track is downright insane. High-downforce “wing cars” can top 110mph, as (barely) seen here competing at the European Championship in Helsinki, Finland from a few years back. So, you could say these cars are fast to the Finnish line. Fast-forward to 0:55 [...]
Hot on the heels of Kyosho’s Scorpion re-release is the Tomahawk, another of the brand’s iconic 80s buggies. The trim, wingless body still looks great, and the hardware underneath has the right vintage look but is built to improved specs. As it did back in the day, the Tomahawk borrows from the Scorpion with its [...]
As nitro-engine starting systems go, pull-starters are definitely the least desirable option. On the plus side, they’re cheap; on the down side, well, everything else. They aren’t reliable, they’re not comfortable to use, and if you’ve ever taken one apart, you know what a hassle it can be to get the spring-genie back into the [...]
We asked you to tell us what you think are RC’s weirdest-looking vehicles, and you definitely found some wild and crazy machines. Along with our own pics, you turned up bizarre front drivers, Robotech-inspired futuristic rides, and mind-boggling homebrew projects that stretch the limits of RC imagination. This unusual homebuilt apeared in our July 1993 issue [...]
Well, by “gas” we mean “diesel oil” and by “slot” we mean “rail,” but you get the idea. This vintage clip might be the most British thing involving models since the Thunderbirds, and is a fascinating look at fuel-powered auto modeling in the pre-radio-control era. Back in 1956, you wore a suit and tie as [...]
Traxxas just revealed a bunch of new products at the dealers-only NRHSA show in Las Vegas, and now the gear is officially announced at Traxxas.com. The Crainiac and Skully trucks are hard to miss, and are easily the wildest-looking trucks to ever wear a Traxxas logo. Each will be offered in two color schemes (blue [...]
