2015 RROC Outdoor: Under the Hood of Kevin Motter’s TQ TLR 22 3.0

Kevin Motter has had little time with the new 22 3.0, but is already showing what it i capable of.

The mains are running today at the 2015 Reedy Outdoor Off-Road Race of Champions, and I was able to get a peak at Kevin Motter’s TLR 22 3.0 that grabbed the TQ spot in Open 2WD buggy. In spite of the loose, dusty conditions, his buggy is almost entirely in box stock configuration. For power he is using the HobbyWing V3.1 speed control mated up with their 7.5T brushless motor with stock rotor. An Orion 4600mAh Pro Carbon shorty LiPo spaced two thin pads forward delivers the needed power and up front a Spektrum 6240 servo helps out the steering. For tires, Kevin is using JConcepts Double-Dees in green compound with molded closed-cell inserts that he punched two rows of holes around the perimeter to help soften them- the front uses one row. Other highlights include his use of a 6.5” rear wing, center body fin. The shocks have 1.6mm 2-hole pistons all around instead of the kit 1.5mm 2-hole and for oil he incorporates TLR 32.5W oil front, 30W rear, with Orange springs front (kit set-up is silver) and yellow springs rear. Surprisingly, he is also uses the 3-gear transmission in spite of the kit supplying a 4-gear as another option.
