This Weather-Beaten Trail Bug is a Vaterra Twin Hammers [READER’S RIDE]

Ronald Martin’s bug-bodied Twin Hammers is a perfect reminder of how modest beginnings can lead to great results. He tells us that this project all started with a donated spare parts chassis he inherited from a friend. He dug into his own stash of leftover parts to put the basic foundation together. He had some stock suspension parts left over from his own very first Twin Hammers kit, and a set of 1.55 wheels and tires from an old TF2. He had access to a new-in-box Tamiya Sand Scorcher shell, but that bug body required shortening the  wheelbase to 10 inches by fabricating some homemade links. The uppers measure 72mm and the lowers are 87mm. Ronald repurposed an old Axial AE-2 controller coupled to a new Yeah Racing 23T motor powered by a 3S 2200mAh LiPo. He sprayed the body with Createx coral blue paint and added a homemade roof rack to hold various salvaged scale accessories. To give it just the right authentic patina he applied a Rustall weathering kit. He reports that he is surprised and delighted with how capable this SWB Twin Hammers is on the trails. And you can see, it looks great!
