2015 Pro-Line April Fools Classic: Drew Moller’s Custom 2WD Buggy

The Pro-Line April Fools Classic is visited by some of the fastest factory drivers and sometimes you get to see some pretty cool stuff. One 2WD buggy that’s been looking fast on the track, is HB/HPI Racing’s Drew Moller’s custom made 2WD buggy. With no HB/HPI Racing 2WD in production, Moller decided to take things in to his own hands and fabricate something himself instead of running another company’s off-the-shelf model. Posting something like this would normally bring a lot of rumors about it being a prototype buggy from HB/HPI Racing, but Moller is quick to point out that this is just a personal project and something he can learn from. The foundation of the buggy is a Centro C4.2 mid-motor buggy, HB/HPI Racing D413 shocks, custom made carbon fiber shock towers and a Kyosho RB6 front end, but there’s plenty more. Let’s take a closer look at this custom buggy.

The buggy is a mix of many parts along with some custom made bits. He tops the whole thing off with a Pro-Line body made for the HB/HPI Racing D413 4WD buggy and just trims it down to size.

The Centro C4.2 chassis is used for Moller’s buggy with drilled holes and a few changes to make everything come together.

The buggy is outfitted with LRP electronics including their new Super Shorty LiPO 2600 battery. This battery is light and brings the buggy under legal weight, but allows Moller to add weight where he wants for additional tuning to bring it back within rules.

Custom fabricated shock towers are 4mm taller at the front and rear in order to work with HB/HPI Racing D413 4WD buggy shocks. He outfits the shocks with HB white springs up front with HB yellow at the rear.

Moller had to make this rear carbon fiber shock tower out of some scrap he had lying around. It’s pretty thin and he admits a bit fragile, but as long as he doesn’t have a bad crash, he figures it will last.

Pro-Line Electrons in clay compound are his tires choice on all four corners of his buggy. He prefers the 2.2″ wheels and tires and use the blue stock closed cell foam.
