Over 100 Photos! IFMAR Off-Road Electric Worlds Opening Ceremonies

The first day of the IFMAR World Championships consisted of the introduction of the team drivers for each nation, with a parade of flags circling the track with teammates dressed in matching t-shirts. After the National Anthem was sang by a local children’s group the racers hit the pit area to begin preparing for tomorrow’s practice heats, which have been cut from ten rounds to six to allow for additional track preparation time after yesterday’s rainstorm.

The IFMAR Worlds uses a control tire to eliminate cheating, lower the advantage of sponsored drivers with access to otherwise unobtainable equipment, and ensure a level playing field. All tires must be mounted in a special tent area under supervision, where they are marked and stored in impound to prevent tampering. All 2WD competitors are using Pro-Line‘s X2 compound Scrubs in front and Suburbs in the rear, while the 4WD buggies will use Suburbs all the way around. Here’s Team Novak driver Zack Genova hard at work.

The biggest story of day one, however, was the A Main Hobbies track crew working on the surface for most of the day after a rainstorm yesterday washed away the immaculately prepared surface. Head track builder Kevin Jelich (right) and his staff had their work cut out for them after a heavy rain shower on Saturday damaged the track.

Practice begins at 11 AM PT tomorrow, so check back for more news as the buggies hit the Silver Dollar R/C Raceway track for the first time!

Special thanks to A Main Hobbies for the Day One photos.
