Serpent goes RTR with race-spec, Novarossi-powered 1/8 buggy

Serpent built its considerable reputation on cutting-edge competition nitro kits for on-road racers, but is now showing off its chops in a whole new way by going RTR and off-road. Rather than going down-spec for the leap to RTR, the new Cobra buggy is a fully competition-ready machine, complete with race-grade horsepower from legendary Italian power broker, Novarossi.

Pro driver Billy Easton penned the Cobra design, and its specs include Savox-built Dragon high-torque servos, LCD-equipped Dragon 2.4GHz radio system, 4mm 7075 aluminum chassis and shock towers, tuned exhaust system, CV shafts, and 16mm threaded-body shocks. For full details, visit the Cobra’s page in our Hot News & New Stuff forum.

Serpent RTR Cobra (1)

It’s a sharp-looking buggy, there’s no doubting that. The tires look race-worthy. Is that a faux brake caliper on the transmitter’s steering wheel?

The polished pipe and header are standard, and spring mounted. The Cobra’s Novarossi powerplant features a pull starter so you can get revved up without having to invest in a starter box.

The shocks are oversized at 16mm and are finely threaded for precise preload adjustment. Swaybars are standard. CV shafts are used up front, looks like a pair of dogbones back here.

Novarossi is synonymous with competition-level horsepower and high quality. This will be a hot buggy.

Looks good. We’ll have a full review in RC Car Action as soon as we can get our hands on a Cobra of our own.
