IFMAR Pre-Worlds Qualifying Day 1 Update

IFMAR Pre-Worlds Qualifying Day 1 Update

The world’s best 2WD and 4WD Modified drivers are competing this weekend in Chico, California at the World’s warm-up race.  A Main’s Jason Sams is on the scene covering the event and brings us the following race recap from day 1:

A round of qualifying is in the books at the IFMAR Pre-Worlds held at A Main Hobbies’ Silver Dollar R/C Raceway and Hot Bodies’ Ty Tessmann set the pace in 2WD using a Kyosho RB6 configured mid-motor. Most of the top drivers have opted for mid-motor chassis set-ups with just a few drivers still running rear-motor. Ryan Cavalieri of Team Associated is running a CML-converted B4.2 while his Associated teammate Ryan Maifield is running the B4.2 rear motor. Most of the Kyosho drivers have their RB6 buggies set-up mid-motor, as well as a number of the Yokomo and Tamiya drivers.

In 4WD, Yokomo’s standout racer Naoto Matsukura set the pace with his B-MAX4 II World Spec. Matsukura has been dropping the fastest lap times in both 2WD and 4WD all-weekend long. A few mistakes prevented Matsukura from taking top honors in 2WD. Matsukura who also races on-road seems right at home on the high-bite, sugared surface of Silver Dollar R/C Raceway. It’s looking like he is the early favorite given the consistent of his lap times and that many of them are inside the times of the other top drivers.
