Join the RC Car Action crew as we cover this amazing new RC event. Held at the Sanford Sea Coast Regional Airport in Sanford, Maine, this is going to be one of the most exciting RC experiences of the year. RC Car Action is going to be there in full force on the track and around the grounds to report on all the cars, trucks, boats and racers making this event a must see. The crew will be reporting and posting to the RC Car Action website to provide up to the minute coverage with photos and video. The cool factor of this event for racers and bashers alike is the huge track with jumps as tall as 16 feet! There will be open practice on Friday followed by qualifying on Saturday and mains on Sunday. Pits There’s plenty of new products from Losi and many others that will be on display as well as try me track and, of course, the New England atmosphere and countryside is like no other destination in the world.

 

The track will be open on Thursday. Friday is the official practice day. Off-road racing will be conducted on Saturday and Sunday. This is where Air Meet kicks into high gear and makes you the star of the show for thousands of public spectators. You’ll share the limelight with other RC specialists from around the country to enjoy the fun by delivering dazzling, non-stop hobby entertainment that will thrill and inspire an audience of all ages. Hundreds of drivers are expected, so be sure to register early.All helicopter specialties are also welcome from nitro, gas and electric thrill machines to ultra micro and Giant-Scale masterpieces. The wide open facility provided by the Sanford Seacoast Regional Airport allows us to set up a flying area specifically catered to the needs of an RC Helicopter pilot. The all-grass location will include generous space for multiple flight box areas.

For your convenience, an on-site Horizon Hobby Service Center will be available during the event. AC electric power and secure overnight storage will also be available. The Horizon Hobby Air Meet invites everyone to join the fun with “Try Me” activities that make it possible to experience, hands-on, the thrill of driving a performance RC car or airplane. Plus, there will be RC flight simulators throughout the event available for the public to virtually experience what it’s like to pilot rare aircraft like those demonstrated on the runway.

Mike Truhe

Off-Road Championship Driver, TLR member.

Mike hails from Torrance, California, and has been into Radio Control for the last 11 years, getting hooked on racing cars after he started flying airplanes and helicopters. His favorite track is the Nitro Pit, his favorite RC class is 1/8th Buggy and his favorite event is the RC Nitro Challenge. In 2008 Mike was the Remotely Operated Auto Racers (ROAR) Bubby National Champion, and he’s very proud to have added the Worlds Top Qualifier to his list of triumphs for that same year. His favorite RC vehicle is the Losi® XX-CR KE Edition that’s given him so many successful RC moments recently. Mike loves to hang out with friends, flying RC and doing pretty much anything else that’s fun and offers a challenge.

Dustin Evans

Off-Road Championship Driver, TLR member.

The 2011 ROAR National Champion, Dustin Evans is one of the top drivers for Team Losi Racing, who brings versatility to a speedy driver lineup. The Denver, Colorado native has ascended through the world rankings and established himself as a winner, while being one of the few drivers capable of competing in seven different classes of competition. He struck early and often in 2011 with an invitational victory at the Reedy International Race of Champions and maintained his winning ways at races such as the Short Course Showdown, JConcepts Fall Indoor Nationals and the Hot Rod Shootout. Dustin peaked during the ROAR Off-Road Nationals, where he was able to take home the prestigious 2WD Modified National Championship. Dustin has the personality, flair and magic that must be seen to be believed.

Scotty Ernst

Internationally Recognized Event Director and Announcer.

Scotty has been involved in RC since 1988 after his tour of duty was finished in the US Navy. After racing and falling in love with RC, he opened S&N’S Trackside Hobbies in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This was an indoor racetrack and hobby shop. Over the next nearly 20 years, he moved S&N’s two times to where it is currently located in Brookfield, Wisconsin still with a full hobby shop and now two indoor racetracks. Scotty has announced thousands of races with his own unique style and enthusiasm. In 2001 he was asked to race direct and announce one of the most prestigious events in all of RC, the Reedy Race of Champions, which launched a new venture that takes Scotty around the world to direct and announce some of the biggest motor sport events. In 2005 he began his own world-class level event called the International Indoor Championships held on the “Strip” in Las Vegas, which attracts the biggest names in RC from around the globe. He has announced numerous World Championships as well as full-scale racing at the Legendary Milwaukee Mile, which includes NASCAR and Indy Car events. Scotty brings the life of the show to a whole new level.

Event FAQs

How much is admission?

Admission is free! However, please keep in mind there is a parking fee of $10/car.

May I leave the Air Meet and come back in?

Parking passes are only good for the day of purchase. You’re welcome to leave and return as often as you’d like within that day.

What is the best time to come to the Air Meet?

We feel that the best air show display will be on Saturday and Sunday from 11-3. It is during these times that you will get the opportunity to see world class model and full scale pilots. There will also be a Saturday night time air show display from 7:30-9:30.

Is handicapped parking available?

Handicapped parking will be provided, as well as a shuttle service.

Is there a rain date?

The show must go on! Regardless of weather, the Air Meet will be held September 6-9.

What Items are restricted?

-Weapons (regardless of permits) including: firearms, knives, walking sticks (except for handicap use)

-Alcoholic beverages

-Pets

-Glass containers

-Bicycles, skateboards, roller blades, & roller skates

What address should I put in MapQuest or my GPS?

1 Gate House Rd., Sanford, ME 04073 (This address will bring you to the entrance of the event. From there you will be directed for parking.)

Can I bring my pet?

Local public safety officials have requested that no pets be brought on the premise. So for the safety of your animals, please leave them home for the day.

Is food available at the Air Meet?

Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the Air Meet. You will see your standard hamburgers, hotdogs, pizza, pulled pork, lobster rolls, ice cream, cotton candy, chowder, chili, fried dough, BBQ chicken, etc.

Will there be bathrooms open to the public?

Portable toilets will be onsite for the duration of the event.

Is seating provided?

Limited seating will be available. We do encourage the public to bring your own chairs/blankets.

Can I bring a cooler?

We welcome you to bring your own food and beverages in a cooler. However, we do ask that no glass be brought on the premise.

Can I bring beer in my cooler?

Alcohol will not be allowed to be brought into the Air Meet.
