RCCA at Byron Fuels World Challenge – Leisure Hours Raceway – Event Wrap

Jun 25, 2012 2 Comments by

Congratulations to all the racers, Byron Fuels, and Leisure Hours for making this yet another successful event.  It’s pretty unique how mellow the overall vibe is even with cash payouts on the line.  People are all helping their fellow driver, and the focus is on fun.  Everything was very organized, and ticked off like clockwork all weekend.

Impressive to see guys like Paolo Morganti not only compete in all three classes, but podium all three!  Morganti really put on a clinic, especially piloting Serpent’s new GT release, the Cobra.  That car looked like it was on rails all weekend.

While attendance at some onroad races might be seeing a decline in some areas, it’s events like this that breathe life into this hobby.  During the mains on Sunday, there were a handful of people that were totally new to the scene that were stopping by to check out what was going on.  It’s awesome to watch them take it all in, and smile from ear to ear in total awe.

Top three from the A Mains:

45 Minute GT A Main
1st  Paolo Morganti
2nd Walt Gorczowski
3rd  Mark Borchert

60 Minute 1:10 Touring Car A Main
1st  JJ Wang
2nd  Paolo Morganti
3rd  Chay Blount

60 Minute 1:8 Onroad A Main
1st  Paolo Morganti
2nd  Ted Hammer
3rd  Jason Conley

About the author

I've been into R/C since I was 12 years old when I was able to save up enough for a used Tamiya Fast Attack Vehicle; I've been hooked ever since. Currently, my garage is filled with electric & nitro airplanes, electric & nitro trucks and buggies, and even some boats…but my true passion is racing onroad. Maybe it's my background in karting combined with the competitive spirit of mountain biking, but I really enjoy the balance of tuning and precision driving that makes for close racing.

    Eric,
I enjoyed your article and photos of the Byron World Challenge on-road in the October issue of Radio Control Car Action. What brand of car did Walt Gorczowski place second with, and what brand did Mark Borchert place third with in the GT A Main? That was a great podium photo of the three GT cars. The paint jobs and 1/8 size of these cars looks great in the photo. Byron Fuels and your article did a great job of promoting on-road racing. I like these 1/8 GT cars.

    Thank you

Walt G raced a Kyosho GT1, not certain about Mark. GT is a fun class for sure!
