The Next Big Thing Is Here

The Next Big Thing Is Here

The hottest segment in RC is short course, right? Well, I guess it’s hard to argue that, but we might just be on the verge of something new being the biggest racing class. I’m talking about 2WD electric buggy.

Back in the era of the Tamiya Hornet and ol’ gold tub Team Associated RC10, I got started racing this class–and I loved it. But it’s been years since really gave it a serious effort. No reason why comes to mind other than I went with the crowd. I raced 2WD buggy, then touring cars, then gas truck, then 1/8-scale buggies, and lately it’s been all about short course. There were a few adventures with monster truck racing and a whole lot of left-turn only oval racing.

Now, 2WD buggies are back and I may just go along with the crowd again. How do I know they’re back? They’re every where and everyone is offering one. In my office right now I have the ready-to-run Losi 22, the Durango DEX210, a Tamiya DN01 and an Electrix (now ECX) Boost. Add in the Arrma Raider that was originally unnoticed behind me and you start to see why I think 2WD buggies might just be back and bigger than ever.

So, what do you think? Is 2WD buggy back and is it going to be the big class of 2012?
