Going To Las Vegas! SX Finals!

May 06, 2011 5 Comments by

Some perks of my job include always having an influx of new RC cars to play with, traveling to interesting destinations, and living on the other side of the country from Kevin Hetmanski.  This weekend, I’m on the road again, traveling to the Fabulous Las Vegas to check out the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Finals at Sam Boyd stadium.

An RC editor…attending a Supercross event…?  Yes indeed, times have changed and RC companies are cross promoting to new groups of enthusiasts with excellent success.  Not only are RC companies attending these events, three of them actually sponsor supercross teams!  Walking through the pits, I will encounter companies like TRAXXAS, ASSOCIATED and LOSI in their respective sponsor pit areas.

So how many of you follow motocross and supercross closely?  Will you be watching on TV, or in attendance at the race?

About the author

Executive Editor I jumped into R/C back in 1987, when mechanical speed controllers and hard rubber tires were all the rage. Since then, I’ve experienced R/C in almost every state in the USA. I've built and raced every type of RC vehicle created, and traveled throughout the country (and world) to attend and cover more R/C events than I can remember. But what a fun ride it's been! I'm fortunate to live in Southern California, and I take advantage of my location by enjoying R/C outdoors year ‘round. Club racing is the future for R/C growth, and I’m always looking to bring new people into the hobby, whether it’s through backyard bashing or organized racing.

    Really, you’re going? :)

This will be my third race of the year – went to the first round in Anaheim, the race in Oakland, and now Vegas. I was into motocross before RC, though the latter is definitely safer than the former.

Love both SX and MX and have been to quiet a few races. Raced MX and AX for quiet a few years before I started racing hare scrambles. Had to give up racing bikes due to back injuries, now I race rc buggies any spare weekend I have. Same adrenalin rush as racing dirtbikes only a lot safer. LOL

I grew up racing MX/SX, I am so glad to see the cross promotion of my 2 favorite hobbies!
