Can You Beat This?

Can You Beat This?

I have started building an RC version of a Top Truck Challenge style truck. For those who don’t know, Top Truck Challenge is an annual full-size event put on by Four Wheeler magazine. It’s an over-the-top hardcore off-road test for trucks and it includes mud, rocks, dirt and frame bending, suspension breaking, engine blowing utter mayhem. Sounds cool, right? Here’s the scoop: RC Car Action will be having its own RC version–this year! RC crawling clubs are already hosting similar events that have evolved from scale comps, but we are going to do ours on a national level and maybe even have an invitational class. Do you think you have or could build a truck that can beat my work in progress shown here?

What’s so cool about this type of competition–besides all of the carnage–is that the trucks have to excel at a variety of things. They can just be fast through the mud or good over the rocks. They have to be great at everything off-road.

Possible Events:

> Mud bog

> Hill climb

> Weight pull

> Rock crawl

> Obstacle course

> Sand drag

My Jeep

As you can probably tell, my truck is based off an Axial SCX10. So far it’s fairly stock, but it won’t stay that way for long. I’m a Jeep guy (Ford guy too), so it’s fitted with a Pro-Line Wrangler Unlimited body (just painted it this morning) and Pro-Line rims. Axial’s new Ripsaw tires were chosen for their height and aggressive tread pattern. I have pieces from AJS Machine and RC4WD on or going on the truck right now. It will have a 2-speed, a working winch and maybe even rear steer.
