Tekin Wins At The 2011 April Fool’s Classic

Tekin Wins At The 2011 April Fool’s Classic

For the past 23 years, Intermountain R/C Raceway, or IRCR, has been the home of the annual April Fools Classic. Bringing in racers from all over the US, the AFC is one of the year’s premiere indoor offroad 1/10 scale races in the western United States. Novices and veterans alike gather in Magna, UT at IRCR every year around, you guessed it, April Fools day, thus giving the race its name back in 1988 at the first ever event.

Tough competition is always a gaurantee every year at the AFC and this year was no exception. Drivers from many well known top manufacturers were in attendance, battling for that top spot on the podium. The Tekin team were on their game this weekend and brough home quite a few TQ’s and podium finishes. The team really stepped it up this year, claiming more top spots than last year’s AFC.

Team Driver and local racer Aaron Eastman claimed TQ in 4×4 Open Short Course and 13.5 4WD Buggy and backed it up by taking the win in both classes! Great job Aaron!

Lloyd Dasonville took down TLR Drivers Matt Chambers and Corey Peterson in 2WD Modified by putting together flawless A2 and A3 mains, taking the overall win for the elite 2WD class. Lloyd also finished 3rd overall in Modified Truck, with fellow drivers Kyle Wrigley and Ty Campbell in the 4th and 5th spots.

Kyle threw down one of his best runs of the day in 13.5 Super Stock Truck taking the A-main victory with Nathan Lavery close behind in 2nd, Aaron Eastman in 3rd and Ty Campbell in 5th. The Super Stock Truck podium was all Tekin in the top 3!

Nathan Lavery also had a great run in 13.5 Super Stock Buggy, finishing a close 2nd to Sacramento driver Brian Eady. Bobby Gately finished 3rd in the big boy 4WD modified class after 3 intense A-main races by staying smooth and consistent.

Over on the Stock side of the AFC, Team driver Jason “Sherrif” Smith took 3rd place in both Stock Short Course and Stock Truck. Stock was very competitive this year, no timing boost was allowed in any 17.5 class.

The 23rd April Fools Classic was, again, a great race and a true test of driver skill. The unique IRCR dirt just gets better and better as the weekend rolls along and the more worn out the tires got, the better the traction was. Lap times kept getting faster and drivers really pushed the limits of their cars and only the fastest and most consistent come out on top at a venue like IRCR. Great racing and great people make the April Fools Classic a must attend for the Tekin crew.

We’ll be back.
