World Exclusive: Axial Wraith Revealed
We’ve teased you with a couple of shots, but it’s now official. Axial’s new scale truck, the Wraith, is a dual purpose off-road machine and it has been officially revealed.
How is it dual purpose? It’s designed to go fast and crawl. This truck comes RTR with a brushed setup, but it can handle brushless. Axial made sure that the not only could the drivetrain handle high speeds, but the suspension and steering geometries could as well. On top of that, the Wraith is a highly scale rock buggy. It features a full interior and a highly detailed roll cage type chassis.

Key Features:
Axles. The axles on the Axial Wraith are wider than the axles used on previous Axial platforms. From hex to hex, the new axle is 243mm wide. The axles tubes are a large molded single piece. A Differential cap removes much like a full-size axle and allows for easy tuning when using open diffs. The Wraith will come installed with locked diffs.
Tube cage chassis. The Wraith uses an all-new, multi-piece tube chassis design that is highly realistic and durable. The chassis is made out of molded composite plastic and held together with self-tapping hex head screws. The radio box tucked under the hood area is sealed. The Axial Wraith is not completely waterproof as the speed control is exposed. The speed control is well protected and mud shouldn’t be an issue.
Transmission. The Wraith uses an updated version of the 3-gear transmission used in the original AX10. The transmission case now covers the spur and pinion gear. Like more recent versions of the transmission, it includes an adjustable slipper clutch, but modifications have been made to the bottom end of the transmission case as it designed to accept an optional dig unit.
Driveshafts. The Wraith features an all-new driveshaft design. They are designed without the plastic ears on the yokes that can pop off under extreme stress, and instead of being secured to the axles input shaft with a single set screw, a pin passes through the driveshaft and axle input shaft.
Body. The Wraith comes with a pre-painted multi-piece Lexan body kit.
Suspension. A 4-link, reverse triangulated suspension is controlled by four fluid-filled threaded body plastic shocks.
Electronics. The Wraith includes Axial’s AX-2 2.4GHz radio system and an AE-2 speed control with drag brake installed. The speed control was developed by Castle Creations and is compatible with Castle Creation’s Castle Link software. The AS-2 steering servo dishes out 90 in.-oz. of torque.

its cool and all, but the price kills it, at least for my budget
Keep in mind prices will vary and that the truck is RTR with a 2.4GHz radio system
Hey…Axial…can I have mine nitro powered?
+1
is axial going to make a kit version ?
Axial has said that they will release a kit version. No date on when yet.
It mentioned it’s built for speed as well, but I’m guessing it’s geared for crawling speeds out of the box. Any word on top speed with the stock motor?
I think it looks okay. The only problem I have is to see it running without a driver. The price is not that attractive for any 1/10 RTR vehicle in my opinion.

This might be the first crawler type vehicle I will buy. I like the go fast option! I’d rather it be a roller though.
This is an awesome looking truck. As always, it’s great to see trends towards the scale side of RC. It really seems to be the complete package: looks, performance, and (most importantly) fun.
I wish the ESC was brushless capable though.
I meant to say for $200 more you can buy a Traxxas summit
Apples and oranges as they say. I love my Summit, but the Wraith can’t be compared to the Summit. The Summit is a all-terrain monster truck and the Wraith is a rock racer.
na man. the axial wraith is an all-terrain beast, not just a rock racer.
I want to see this thing up close. When will hobby shops have it?
These guys (axial, traxxas, etc…) don’t seem to realize that they’re disaffecting the experienced enthusiasts. Maybe I stand alone, but I shudder every time I see my pile of tacky RTR radios and silver can motors. The wraith is VERY cool, but $350 for a non-waterproof, non-brushless ready RTR….?
will those axles bolt up to my scx10 and driveshafts. only problem is mine is a 6×6 6ws scx10 and doesnt look like i can modify those axles for a middle axle with extra pinion. well one in the front and back and keep the old one in the middle if they do, and throw in that dig tranny and ill have a mean machine
This looks really cool, my only concern is that wheely king battery location probably will hinder crawling quite a bit. How about optional mounts for the front axle or footwells?
I actually like this concept quite a bit. The RTR horse is dead, I’d love a kit, but the idea of being something in between a dedicated crawler and something faster is great. The crawler segment was just too slow for me, so I traded away my crawler. This, on the other hand, could find its way into my collection, but the kit. Thank you Axial!
i just ordered mine @ hobby warehouse, and got it sheaper than any other hobby store. for 350 it retails for almost 400 with taxes in other stores.
Any ideas on when it will ship?
ok i think the axial wraith is awesome but where are the rock crawling videos of it. i mean i have seen the same 2 videos of it tearing up sand and dirt but what about the rocks? Someone please tell me when there will be rock crawling videos of the wraith.
its not a rock crawler its a rock racer
I want to see a crawling video too, can you put a Traxxas Velenion motor in it?
i’m glad someone else wants to see a crawling video
it is a good price, looks great for a scale crawler out of the box. RTR is nice gives a good start than tweek it as you go because you get a kit and install what you think works great maybe it sucks. at least with a base line to start you got an idea. but i know you guys will say you know what works but i do to and i keep changing that to for better results plus having a full size crawler helps to. traxxas summit is a great rig, but thats like comparing it to a road car. its a monster truck, and last i checked theres no competition rock racing for summits there to wide for any competition. plus $200 more for the summit. thats $200 more to put in the wraith. this is more of a comp rig than a basher. and i want to know a water proof and brushless rtr for under $350.
