Traxxas Sponsored Josh Hansen Wins Anaheim 2

Traxxas Sponsored Josh Hansen Wins Anaheim 2

After a literally bone-jarring wreck during practice left 250 West points leader Josh Hansen with two broken fingers and a fracture in his left hand, it appeared the Pro Circuit/Kawasaki/Traxxas rider would not have a shot at repeating his season-opening win at Angel Stadium. Hansen, however, was undeterred. With the invaluable attention of the Asterisk medical team, Hansen not only soldiered through his heat and the Main, he took the win!

Tyla Rattray sat out Anaheim 2 due to injuries, so Heat 1 did not have a Pro Circuit/Kawasaki/Traxxas rider in competition. In Heat 2, Traxxas-sponsored teammates Josh Hansen (100) and Brock Tickle (20) drag raced off the line and Hansen took the holeshot. Tickle dropped into third behind Martin Davalos, and the three held that order until the checkered flag flew. The riders were no doubt conserving their energy and their bikes for the Main, where finishing order counted for series points. Secure in the top three, they were well within the nine-rider cutoff for the Main.

Despite his broken hand, Hansen held tight to his Kawasaki KX250F and roosted to another holeshot, this time with Ken Roczen, Eli Tomac, and Ryan Morais on his fender. Traxxas-sponsored Broc Tickle rode in fifth, all five riders closely grouped and looking for the win. Tickle dispatched Morais before the end of lap one to get into podium range, but the three-bike freight train lead by Hansen proved difficult to catch. Tomac overtook Roczen as their fierce battle for second also kept them close to Hansen. With six laps to go, Tomac passed for the lead but Hansen just as quickly took the position back, slamming the door and crushing Tomac’s momentum, leaving him to battle with Roczen. The renewed fight for second was joined by Tickle, who took advantage of Hansen’s deft block-pass on Tomac to close the gap. Another podium visit for Tickle was not meant to be as Tomac and Roczen successfully defended their positions, but the Pro Circuit/Kawasaki/Traxxas team still took the win as Hansen took flight over the finish line jump with his third victory for the season. “It was everything I had to [block the pain] and get through the whoops,” confessed a weary Josh Hansen from the podium.

With a break in 250 West action arriving just in time, Hansen will have opportunity to heal before renewing his Championship chase as the points leader, eight points ahead of teammate Broc Tickle (left) in second. The time off will also give Tyla Rattray a chance to return to the form that put him on the podium at Anaheim 1. Rest assured, it’s going to be exciting when the 250 West series revs up again in April.
