Ryan Lutz parts ways with Tamiya + Exclusive Online Interview

Here is Ryan’s official statement on this matter.

I would like to thank Tamiya Inc for all of their support over the past 2 years. The sponsorship/employment was a great stepping stone for me and it’s a deal I do not regret doing. I thank all those involved for their support in helping me to continue to accomplish my dream of doing what I love for a living. In the end it was my decision to part ways with Tamiya. They have a lot of nice new parts coming out soon for the 801 line-up and I wish them much success in the future with the project! It was simply my time to go.

I am very much a ‘free agent’ at this moment. I’m trying to analyze the industry and where it’s going, trying to figure out what the best longer term career plan is for me. I’m sure it will all unfold in the coming days/weeks.
Best of luck to Tamiya.

As for me, onwards and upwards! 🙂

-Ryan Lutz

Our own Jason Sams got in touch with Ryan for this exclusive online interview:

Ryan Lutz has elevated his racing status to the elite level in the past few years. He is as or more professional than any other pro racer. Lutz has campaigned the TRF801X and TRF 801Xt almost exclusively, so it was a big surprise when Tamiya announced that they were parting ways. I chatted with Lutz for a few minutes, as I consider him a good friend. Here is what he had to say.

RCCA: What are your plans now that you have left Tamiya?

Ryan Lutz: I plan to continue to race, but right now I don’t know who it will be with. “I am very much a ‘free agent’ at this moment.”

RCCA: Have any manufacturers contacted you?

RL: No, not yet, but it was just announced yesterday. I am hoping to still race and travel for a major manufacturer. I love racing and hopefully will work something out soon.

RCCA: Why did you leave?

RL: It was a combination of things. It was more about business and personal things towards the end, but I have no hard feelings and appreciate what Tamiya did for me.

RCCA: Did you still want to race as much because the last few years you’ve been on the road almost every weekend?

RL: Yes definitely. If the opportunity is there I would still like to travel to all the big races. I really enjoy racing. I wouldn’t mind traveling all over and representing a company. I just wouldn’t want to travel every weekend.

RCCA: Are you still going to run for same support sponsors?

RL: Yes, I’ll still be running Alpha Plus engines, Byron Originals fuel, AKA tires, KO Propo radio gear, RC Pro Products and for all of the other companies that have supported me.
