Traxxas-Sponsored Pourcel and Rattray Finish 2nd and 3rd in Steel City, Pourcel Leads Points Chase

Latest race news from Traxxas:

Delmont, PA: AMA Motocross returned to Pennsylvania’s Steel City Raceway for Round 11 of the series, leaving just one more race to decide the 250cc championship. Traxxas-sponsored Christophe Pourcel, Dean Wilson, and Tyla Rattray all rode impressively aboard their Pro Circuit-prepped Kawasaki KX250Fs, but rival Trey Canard took both moto wins and the overall for the weekend. Canard has narrowed the gap to points-leader Pourcel, assuring an exciting finale as the final round unfolds at Pala Raceway in California this weekend.

Moto 1: Traxxas-sponsored Tyla Rattray took the holeshot with teammate Christophe Pourcel close behind. Pourcel took over the lead by lap two, and soon found Canard on his fender. The two top-ranked 250cc riders dueled throughout the moto while Dean Wilson suffered two crashes, putting him well out of podium contention. Pourcel and Canard continued to battle, swapping positions for the lead. Pourcel’s final lap was the fastest of any rider in the moto, but it was Canard who was in front when the checkers came out.

Moto 2: Dean Wilson blasted out of the gate on his Pro Circuit/Kawasaki/Traxxas machine to take the holeshot while Tyla Rattray slotted into fourth, but Christophe Pourcel got a poor start and landed mid-pack as the race got underway. Pourcel went to work, quickly getting back into the lead group while Wilson maintained the lead. At the halfway point, Pourcel set the fastest lap and moved up to fifth, catching Rattray and moving closer to Canard, who was running in third. Three minutes later, Canard passed Tomac to move into second, as Pourcel continued to move up as well, passing teammate Rattray. With just a minute and a half left on the clock, Canard finally got around Wilson to take the lead, but he would still have to shake Pourcel for the win. Wilson moved aside as Pourcel came through, making way for the final battle between the two top riders. Pourcel closed the gap and challenged Canard from corner to corner, but could not find the line that would secure the lead. As in Moto 1, Pourcel finished second, but was joined on the podium this time by teammate Dean Wilson. Wilson’s commanding performance proved the young rider’s professionalism and resiliency as he bounced back from two crashes in Moto 1 to set the pace for most of the race in Moto 2.

With wins in both motos, Trey Canard took the overall win in Steel City but still trails series leader Christophe Pourcel (who took second overall) by seven points. Tyla Rattray finished third overall for the weekend and holds third in series points. Though off the overall podium in Steel City, Dean Wilson earned enough points to hold fourth place in the series heading into the final round in Pala, CA. The 2010 AMA 250 National Motocross Championship will be decided this weekend–don’t miss the action LIVE on Speed, 8pm Eastern (5pm Pacific)!
