Traxxas Sponsored Jake Weimer Crowned 250 West Champion; Teammate Josh Hansen Wins Final Round of 250 West Series

Latest race news from Traxxas:

The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki/Traxxas team rolled into Salt Lake’s Rice-Eccles stadium with great expectations for Jake Weimer, who only needed to finish 15th or better to take the overall championship, but teammate Josh Hansen also had high hopes as he planned to mark the final race of the 250 West season with his first win.

In the 250 West Lites qualifying, Hansen was the fastest rider, and won his heat race. Jake Weimer also won his heat race, setting up both riders for an excellent shot at the podium in the Main. But this would be no ordinary race; in addition to the challenging track and the other skilled riders, the Traxxas-sponsored teammates would also be fighting treacherous weather as heavy rain pelted the track. Josh Hansen motored to second place a the start, and slotted in behind Will Hahn while Jake Weimer rode conservatively in sixth place–no need to bang bars with a championship so nearly within his grasp. Hansen took over the lead in lap two, and by lap ten, Weimer moved up a position and the rain turned to snow. Low visibility slowed lap times but did not stop the race as Hansen stayed up front all the way to the checkered flag to end his season with a win. Weimer crossed the line in fifth, earning points to spare as he clinched the 250 West championship. “I don’t even know what to say,” mused Weimer, fresh from the track. “A huge thanks to my team – Monster, Kawasaki, Pro Circuit, Mitch … everyone. This championship is for the entire team. I’d like to thank the fans, and my family for coming out … the list of people to thank goes on and on, especially my dad and family and team!”

Now the 250 West champion, Jake Weimer joins Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki/Traxxas teammate and 250 East champ Christophe Pourcel as the top riders in the Lites class, proving yet again that Mitch Payton and his Pro Circuit team are the very best in motocross. Traxxas congratulates the riders, mechanics, and crew, and is proud to be part of the number-one team.

Supercross fans, there’s one more race to go! The top East and West riders will clash at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas for the intense East vs. West Shootout. Catch the action on Speed, May 9, 5pm Eastern (2pm Pacific).
