Traxxas Draws Crowds, Supports Racers at Short-Course Showdown

Traxxas Draws Crowds, Supports Racers at Short-Course Showdown

Latest from Traxxas:

Two years ago, Traxxas introduced the world to radio control short-course racing with the release of the award-winning Traxxas Slash. Now a staple at local tracks across the country, short-course R/C racing has also spawned national-level events. Legendary event promoter and announcer Scotty Ernst assembled what many felt was the best short-course race to date with the inaugural running of the Short Course Showdown over the weekend of April 24-25, 2010, at S&N Trackside Hobbies in Milwaukee, WI. Traxxas partnered with Scotty during the early planning stages of the Short Course Showdown to support the event, the participants, and spectators in attendance. It wasn’t long until the buzz spread throughout the Midwest and the R/C community.

The result of that buzz was the largest gathering of short course racers in the history of the new category. In addition to hosting a race at Trackside Hobbies, there were products on display from many radio control manufacturers for spectators and racers to see first hand. Traxxas displayed its full line-up of short course vehicles including Slash, Slash 4X4 Ultimate, the Slash 4X4 accessory truck, 1/16 Slash 4X4, and the nitro powered 4-wheel drive Slayer.

The Traxxas booth was busy throughout the weekend as racers and spectators visited to discuss setups with Traxxas factory racers Steve Slayden and Mike Battaile or to talk shop with Slash 4X4 designer and racer Tim Roberts. Traxxas Marketing Manager Damron Atkins was on-hand to speak with spectators about Traxxas’ exciting short-course product line-up. Traxxas also handed out posters, catalogs, and DVD’s to everyone who raced or visited the Short Course Showdown.

During the drivers’ meeting, Scotty Ernst thanked Traxxas for starting the short course phenomenon, stating that “the Slash revolutionized the hobby industry and introduced an entire new clientele to the exciting world of R/C by cross-promoting the radio controlled Slash with the full-size Traxxas trucks that race in the TORC Series.” Scotty ran a flawless race program and the pre-race radio announcements and onsite promotions attracted customers and spectators to the mini-tradeshow that was setup inside Trackside Hobbies facility.

The highlight of the race weekend was the Traxxas Slash Spec class. With over 30 entries, the Slash Spec class featured the closest racing action of the weekend. The spec Slash trucks raced with the included factory Titan 12-turn motor, XL-5 electronic speed control, Slash tires, and a 7-cell NiMH or 2-cell LiPo battery pack. After the action packed A-Main which included close racing and excellent sportsmanship by Blaine Gould, the crowd erupted with applause. It was the loudest applause after a race throughout the entire weekend. Racers and spectators appreciate the Slash Spec class, since it offers an economical form of racing that pits driving skills versus driving skills and not one person’s wallet against another.

Traxxas would like to thank Scotty Ernst and family and the Trackside Hobbies crew for an amazing and successful event. Thanks to Jeff Nemecek for shooting the great photos and Scott from AMSOIL for the hospitality. Thank you to the racers and spectators who stopped by the Traxxas booth. We look forward to seeing you at the next Short Course Showdown!
