Josh Cyrul and Mike Blackstock win the “fast classes” at the 2008 US Touring Car Championships

What a way to kick off the New Year, and a new season of racing! The US Touring Car Championships AKA “the Novak All Brushless Race” held at Scotty Ernst’s Trackside Hobbies & Raceway in Milwaukee was the first of its kind held anywhere in the world with a mix of 17.5, 13.5, 10.5-turns, and modified BL motors.  This is an all Sedan race with some Tamiya mini coopers thrown into the mix.

In the foam 10.5-turn and Modified classes, it was a two man show between Mike Blackstock and Josh Cyrul.  Corally’s Blackstock set the TQ in both classes with this RDX Phi and looked untouchable, but Josh Cyrul with his custom built sedan won the 10.5-turn A1 and A2 mains to take the overall win.  In the Modified class it was all she wrote when Blackstock took the early lead and checked out in both the A1 and A2-mains to claim the championship.

Hopefully this years US Touring Car Championships will start the standard and every major race will follow suit and use only brushless motors.  What will be next, an all brushless and Li-Po race?  Look for full coverage of the 2008 USTCC in a future issue of R/C Car Action!
