Traxxas Rally

When I was first assigned the review of the new Rally I didn’t even know what it was—I was told that the big brown truck would be dropping a new Traxxas vehicle for me to test, and that’s it; the fact that I didn’t have a clue made it that much more exciting. When I got a vague hint during a phone call that it may be a rally car, I even considered camping out under the mailbox waiting for its arrival. I started to envision my own miniature World Rally Championship career in my dreams, picturing a line of brave spectators sprayed by dirt and gravel while I drifted by with the steering wheel locked in the opposite direction, focused straight down the course by staring through the driver’s side window. Sebastian Loeb, eat your heart out.

AWARD WINNING DNA

Once you remove its large shell (there’s a lot of Lexan here), it’s quite apparent that the Rally shares more than a last name with the Truck of the Year—and Readers’ Choice—award-winning Slash 4X4. Sealed diff s at both ends of the driveshaft provide full-time 4WD without risk of damage or debris, a bulletproof system proven to shrug off the stresses of the Velineon brushless system that will propel this car to 60+ mph on 3S power—would you have expected less? I found the adaptation of the beloved race truck’s suspension even more impressive; diff erent mounting positions for the oil-fi lled shocks are among the relatively few tweaks needed to eliminate the body roll of the short course truck and recreate the handling prowess of a small European hot hatch (wait until you drive it—they nailed it).
